The Open Championship is my favorite tournament, because I can get up an watch a hour of golf before work, or work from home with the TV on. It's also really fun to watch the golfers deal with the links style courses.

Last year it was Greg Norman tearing up the course (relatively speaking). This year it's Tom Watson. Currently the club house leader at -5.

Also at -5 is Ben Curtis. After he won the '03 Open, the joke was "Ben Curtis" is Irish for "flash in the pan". As it turns out, Ben is no flash in the pan ... just really hot and cold. Looks like he's hot again.

Canuck Mike Weir is in good shape at -2.

The Open Championship was his first PGA victory. He won twice in 2006 and nothing since then, almost three years. Still, it's awfully tough to win a PGA tournament.

Ben's had some other close calls, including the recent US Open.

Weir is in the clubhouse at -3. Good start for Mike. Former Open champ John Daly currently at -2.

Weir and Ames both missed the cut, as did Tiger Woods. Tom Watson is tied for first.

Ben Curtis also missed the cut.

This is a historical tournament, the likes of which we may never see again. Tom Watson and Stewart Cink are in a four-hole playoff. Watson bogeyed the 18th hole which resulted in a tie with 35 year-old Cink. Watson has 8 major victories, Cink has none.

Very exciting!

Exciting? Golf? When? Only when golf becomes full contact will it become exciting. And only when they stop yelling "get in the hole" will I consider it a real sport.

If you're a golfer, golf can be very exciting. Mind you, some people don't consider curling to be a real sport. Different strokes for different folks.

Playing golf (and curling) and watching golf are two very different perspectives.

As for curling, let one naysayer play a full ten ends at lead and see what they say about that as a real sport...

Having played the sport, I can agree with your assessment - although in our case it was simply an excuse to get together to drink beer...

Oh, how I wanted him to make that putt. Tom's one of the classiest, most beloved pro golfers of all time and a favorite of mine. I guess the pressure got to him and he made a poor stroke, something I do all too often. Stewart Cink was gracious in accepting victory, and is also a class act in the prime of his career.

Yes, I found that acceptance speech to be a rather gracious affair as well.....some of our more colorful athletes and coaches out there could take a lesson or five in civility and good sportsmanship from Cink.
