By ROSS ROMANIUK, SUN MEDIA
It appears to be the mother of all Winnipeg mansions, with an equally hefty price.
The 9,000-square-foot home at 761 Wellington Crescent is up for sale, priced at $3.25 million -- a record high for Winnipeg.

"For the Winnipeg market, it's a good price. In Toronto, Vancouver, or
Oakville, Ont., that house would cost $12 million to $15 million. It's
an amazing deal," said realtor Gary Bachman.

At first I thought that it might be one of the Aspers' digs but apparently not.
Did anyone notice the remark close to the end of the article claiming that both David and Leonard Asper's homes on the Crescent had been sold a year or so ago. I thought I had heard that some time ago and that they had shuffled off to other pastures (like Toronto for example), so why is David Asper so hot to trot about building a stadium here and owning the Bombers?
just wondering is all. Question

The Canwest thingy is going down the tubes and they want to push their development company. They want the land at Polo Park for a shopping center...and to get it, they have to go through the Bombers.

I am pretty sure that house was previously owned by Art DeFehr (DeFehr Furniture).

My grandfather was a custodian for them and I recall dropping him off there for a Christmas party.

I wonder if the owner will get the asking price? Looks like a nice house from the outside I would love to see the inside.

DeFehr's having some serious financial troubles...almost bankrupt...so I guess Art is downsizing a bit...

That makes sense. I wonder if he'll get what he's asking?

I bet he will. Maybe even over the asking price.

There are properties around there that are being bought up and the houses demolished in order to build bigger/better. So, it looks like some of these lots are worth a half mil or so eh.

Pretty sad whats happening at DeFehr. Not looking good for a previously successful local company.

success built on taking advantage of the cheap canadian Labour and not on sound business practice.

DeanK- sorry but cheap Canadian labour is a myth, but a 65 cent dollar was probably a good reason for the success of all exporting companies!
DeanK , you must be NDP- shame on you!!

I've noticed that some of DeanK's posts make him sound like a flaming socialist. Isn't that enough to get someone banned from this forum? Very Happy

No no...you're getting us mixed up with another forum. We encourage differences here, rather than ban diversity.
