$800K for an appearance fee?

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/whistleblower-wants-800k-87099352.html

I know someone who works in a senior role at Hydro. I've heard stuff about this person that hasn't made the paper. Perhaps what is being reported is only one side of the story?

With all the secrecy surrounding this "person" it's hard to think otherwise....of course only one side is being told...the other person on the other side can't be identified, and the "work" that she's trying to protect/justify/whatever else....is all hush hush too..

So, I'm going to ignore this B.S. until someone actually sticks their neck out and reveals ALL the details.

No more backroom testimony, if this is AS huge a deal as this person is claiming, then GET IT OUT IN THE OPEN. We're the taxpayers, it's our skin on the line here....let's get with the program.

Today's word of the day: Disclosure!

I'm confused about this.

Is she asking for $800,000 to appear?

Is this what it will cost if she gets intervener status?

The article doesn't make it clear imo.

It seems like she is asking for
A) intervent status, which if she gets she wants
B) her bills paid for, which include her lawyer, her room and board AND for a fee for her appearing as well
C) completely closed doors meetings so no one will ever know what she said or whom she was???

That's kinda' the feeling that I got too.

The heading is very misleading then.

as we learned from a recent other little debacle about lawyers and how much money people want to pay for them.. 800K would not take long to use up in lawyers fees PLUS the lawyers travel and room and board expenses.

To say that she is demanding an $800,000 fee is wrong and very misleading though.

true... but since we dont know who she is
We cant ever know what she is going to talk about
so we realistically cant even decide what are expenses and what are fees
its difficult to call it otherwise.

AND.
"
Meanwhile, Grand Chief Morris Swan Shannacappo of the Southern Chiefs' Association (SCO) said Monday his organization will also apply for intervener status. He said the concerns of SCO First Nations should be considered when the PUB deals with future electricity rate applications and when Hydro builds dams and power lines. The SCO represents 36 First Nations.
Shannacappo also said wind power should be considered more seriously by Manitoba Hydro as it causes less harm to the environment than do northern dams. Several First Nations want to build wind farms to generate and sell power.
"

SO fricking BUILD WIND FARMS USING YOUR OWN MONEY THEN!!!!!!

ummm.. I think that the PUB forced Hydro to buy at X rate from anyone who wants to produce power.... a case from like 10 years ago?

Yeah, but I think at that point, you'd technically become your own energy company.....

"The St. Leon Wind Farm is privately owned and Manitoba's first wind farm containing a total of 63 wind turbines over an area of 93 square kilometers. This site is presently capable of delivering 99 MW"

do you really see any one band putting in enough turbines to even come close to meeting the 10MW extra ability? That would be about 6 or 7 turbines. Never mind how Costly it would be for a remote band to install Wind Turbines, maintenance costs on 6 or 7 turbines are that much more on average when you dont have very many to maintain.

All the power to them to try, using their own money or money loaned to them at current market rates.
