More than likely the Navy SEALS just got bored of waiting for a couple of lightly armed pirates in a lifeboat to hurry up and decide what they wanted to do. They probably figured they could clean up the whole mess in time for lunch. Really bad idea to make death threats against a US hostage when you have the US Navy shadowing your every move. There's only one way to get out of that situation alive....give them what they want.

There was one report that there is an estimated 10,000 pirates, and the want ads are full for more recruits.
Apparently there are in excess of 300 people being held on a dozed ships, waiting to be saved by being ransomed .
Pretty scary- costs the ship owners multi dollars to have to keep on paying the crew and then come up with a negotiated settlement to get them released.

its a slippery slope.. the pirates may just start killing everyone instead of taking hostages if they think that countries like the US wont pay a ransom.
kind of scary, and a problem not easily solved. its not just a matter of sending a few ships and planes over.. there is just so much open water to cover and the pirates use small fast ships that can steer clear of the bigger warships pretty easily.
