I'm currently reading Stephen King's Under The Dome, so far it's OK but I'm only 200 pages into the 1100 page book. I used to be a pretty big King fan but his last 5 or 6 novels have been garbage IMO.

What are the other sandboxers reading? Does anybody have any suggestions for me? I honestly haven't read a really good book in quite awhile , I like most genres of fiction and am open to suggestions!

I enjoyed the 1st two Dan Brown novels.
Just got the latest for Christmas...haven't started it yet.

A couple of similar story types I also enjoyed were:
The Last Templar and
Book of Names

Both tied in actual history with a fictional storyline quite nicely.

I haven't read any Dan Brown, but would probably enjoy it. The movies were good and usually the books are better. Thanks for the suggestion.

I won't touch fiction with a ten foot pole Reading Material Icon_wink I love my biographies, true crime and true adventure.I'm on hold at the library for that Reverend Harry Lehotsky book, 59th in line! While I'm waiting for that I'm reading "Chemical Cowboys", a book on the NYC ecstasy drug trade.

LOL I'm currently 7th in line for a Cormac Mccarthy novel. About a year ago I was 40th so slowly getting closer!
I also like true crime novels and biography's. The last bio I read was Anthony Kiedis's autobiography Scar Tissue. It was an excellant read, Im supprised that guy is still alive.

I read the DaVinci code. It has an interesting premise but is written at a level far below most adults' reading comprehension. I'll never read another Dan Brown book again. Of course, your mileage may vary.

I have the DaVinci code but have yet to read it. The last book I read was My Sisters Keeper, and it was a tear jerker.

Cormac McCarthy is an American literary treasure. He popularized the often-controversial tool of dropping the quotation marks from conversations thus forcing the reader to really connect with the character's "voices".....in other words, slow down and follow....as well, as was aptly practiced in "The Road" he makes use of allusions....quite clever and once again engages the reader as why spoon feed a reader?

My favorite author passed away a few years ago. Jack Olsen was one of the very best true crime/adventure authors around. Misbegotten Son, Son, I, Salt Of The Earth,etc........all great books!

I'm re-reading "The Essential Writings of Machiavelli" for the umpteenth time... between thumbing through the latest issues of Metropolis and (I'm embarassed to admit) GQ.

hahahahahahahahahah....I had to clue a friend in the other day about Vanity Fair Magazine in that as much as there may usually be cheesecake on the front cover it is a magazine full of insightful articles critiquing the political and cultural landscapes. I like GQ.....it has cute boys in it.

May I suggest reading. Mick Farren

1986 – CORP*S*E (aka Vickers)
1987 – Their Masters' War
1991 – Necrom
1996 – The Victor Renquist Quartet: The Time of Feasting
2000 – The Victor Renquist Quartet: Darklost

These, in my opinion are his finest books.

Heh.

Well, when it comes to magazines, I regularly read GQ, The Economist and Monocle.

Books - read the lazarus project not too long ago which was a bit of an anomoly for me as I usually end up reading adventure travel.

I don't know if G.O.M. has fixed my thumbs up and down, but the other day I hit a thumbs down in error, and I dont know who received it?
I haven't used either since I was threatened with being put to death , and that weekend sort of extinguished my one weekend of trying to get deanK at -100, and ruining G.O.M.'s record of plusses.
So much fun to be had on a forum. This last 3 weeks have been too busy to bring my computer home, but it is now up and running on stolen bandwidth, since my daughter left 5 hours ago, and I have cancelled the real $40 per month rip-off, as well as the cartoon package for her 4 1/2 year old son!
"I love you Zaida", sure is a heart stopper!
