rosen manufactures and sells custom furniture.

Now you owe me ten percent of all sales in 2010 rosen. You're welcome.

The funny thing about that was that I had checked out the website, saw a couple of prices and thought that they would be waaaaaayyyy out of our price range for furniture ( similar to Brick's fine furniture )

I'll pop by there when we start looking for the recliner. The only style that I liked, I saw at Urban barn and it is now discontinued.

Anyone find any good deals? I really want to buy a new fridge and stove, I saw a pair that I like and may head out today and treat myself!

We just bought a new front loading washer & dryer, they are awesome and so quiet!

I make the same assumption when stores don't post their prices.

yeah...ComputerTrends sent me 3 or 4 e-mails boasting their "Boxing Day Sale" that their prices were "too good to publish" in the e-mails.

I happened to be out that way so I stopped in to look...and their prices were the same or worse than anywhere else.

I told their manager they should rethink their advertising...cause it could be construed as "False" advertising...and they could be charged as such.

Speaking of poor service/shopping experiences too...
just before Christmas, I stopped at BestBuy on St. James to pick some gifts up...waited in line for 20 minutes to pay, and when I got to the front of the line the cashier comes up and says "Cash or Credit Card"? and I said "Debit" and he says "sorry, our debit machines are down today".

I threw the stuff I had on the floor and went to the nearest manager...told him
"I'm waiting in line for 20 minutes, with my 4-year-old daughter screaming she has to go potty, waiting to buy overpriced garbage and they don't have the decency to put a sign on their door or in the entrance to the checkouts that says their debit machines are down that day?!!?!"

He apologized meekly...and said he'd put a sign up...then I went back to the line and announced the debit machines are down...in case anyone wanted to know...to which about 20 people made grumbling noises and left the line...and the store.

Shopping is oh so much fun! I did some of my shopping online this year and it was nice...no lines, no crowds.

Atta boy Ages! Nothing peeves me more then what you just described. I had to get tough with BestBuy b4 Christmas..... I went to purchase my new computer there, I took the weekly flyer along so that I could remember what I had been looking at, for a price of 399.00 I couldn't go wrong. Not seeing it on display I showed a salesman the flyer and told him this is what I wanted, then came the BS story, sorry its not in stock but we can sell you this one for only 100 more! I told him this is what you advertised, this is what I want and I'll wait till its in stock. I went and paid for it up front, waited a few days and got what I wanted. They were quite happy to see me leave Boxing Day Sales - Page 2 Icon_smile

How could they be charged with false advertising? Who's going to charge them? I don't think saying that there prices are too good to publish is anything close to false advertising. I'm sure the employees had a good laugh about that one. I know I would have.

I don't have any of the e-mails left...hit delete.

But part of the advertisement was that the prices were "too low" as well.

If they are "too low" to publish, then they have to be lower than other retailers who are selling the same item and publishing their prices.

One example I saw was an LCD TV (LG I believe) was on the "too low" list. It was listed for $249 at Future Shop & BestBuy, but was selling for $299 at ComputerTrends.

Yet Future Shop & BestBuy both had them being advertised for the lower price.

I'm sure the employees may laugh...and that's fine. And nobody is going to charge them with anything this week. But if they continue the practice of deceiving their potential customers...then word WILL spread. And if it becomes blatant enough, eventually they will either go bankrupt from lack of customers, or be charged by some agency who specializes in such things.

Heck...just from my bad experience...there's the 30 or so people reading this thread who now know that store uses deceptive practices to lure customers in. That can't be good publicity/advertising for them. And in my opinion...it's well-deserved for their actions.

I would not say deceptive AA. I'd say it is basic Marketing 101. Their prices may well be "too low" although they don't have to be the lowest at all. Merely too low for them!

Just be wary is all. An informed shopper will take everything he reads or hears with a grain of salt. You did your homework and therefore were not enticed into that store.

I hope you learned to pass on a store that won't post their prices.

i've been there before...and have found some decent deals...and I've taken more courses on Marketing than I care to remember. One of the reasons I was so disgusted with their marketing technique.

And...to be fair, they may have had some things that I wasn't looking for with prices that were incredible...but not worth my time to look at/for.

I know the marketing ploy was to get people to come have a look, in the hopes that those who did may buy something since they were already in the store and had made the trip. It may have worked...on other people. I would hope, however, others who were deceived by the advertising also saw past the deception and walked away as I did. Perhaps next season the store will rethink their campaign and pursue a different standard.

The way I look at it is that if the prices were really low, or at least lower than most, they would advertise them. To advertise and not give the prices suggests the opposite to me...that they're higher than most others, but their sales staff are hard closers and work the crap out of customers once they get in the door...and the point of the ad is to get you in the door.

I just ignore any ad that employees that marketing tactic. I know that once I waste my time getting down to the store that either a) the sale items will all be out of stock or b) the prices suck and they are just hoping I buy something. I can't believe how many people must fall for this crap because obviously if it didn't increase walk up traffic at all they wouldn't keep resorting to it.

My personal favorite is car dealers (yes I'm talking about you Autohaus and St.James Volks) that list all their used care ad's with no prices. Sorry but even if I was in the market for a used Volkswagen I'd rather buy it elsewhere than waste my time driving in just to find out the starting price.
