The Sandbox is the place for answers so I thought I would help a friend with a dilemma.

It seems he has a non-registered, opened ESN Blackberry through Telus. Unfortunately he shared the plan (along with other assets) with an ex, who managed to land them in some credit problems.

Now he is looking to keep his cell phone activated without doing "pay as you go" and does not want to get on a plan. He wanted to know if he has to deal with Telus through this, or is there a company that could meet these requirements.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

holy SHIAT!

I was actually coming on here to ask a similar question

We have two cell phones from 2 years ago, where is best to activate them? How much would this cost since the phones are fully paid for? Do I need a plan to do it? Oh wait hell 3 cell phones.. we also have an older pay as you go one from 5 years ago..

It doesn't have to be the same provider you purchased it from. But if I remember right (and things haven't changed) the network has to be the same type. For example, Rogers phones are TDMA, which don't work on th CDMA mts network adn vice versa. Although that may have changed. Check in your battery compartment, there should be a label that has either CDMA or TDMA somewhere on it.

hmmm....it's a Blackberry Curve 8330 Cell Phone. He just wants to keep the same basic features (vicemail/internet access/etc.)

Hope that helps.

He is also wondering how he would check if it is CDMA or TDMA.
