Thats the St Charles Rifle Range. Owned and operated by National Defence, although I wonder how much use its been getting since 2PPCLI moved to Shilo.

I think its a good idea to move WPS to the Canada Post building. Seems to make sense all the way around. I wonder if they can build a few more skywalks and connect to the Remand Centre. EPC says yes to the postal building. Icon_smile

Do they use St. Charles for handgun? I thought it was a rifle range. I guess they could do rifle training in the PSB if they set up the ranges for it ( similar to the ranges in the basement of minto). But how would they do long range ( 300m) training?

While it may have been re-configured since I was there, St Charles has four 600m ranges, a pistol range and a hand grenade range. Because of its proximity to the city and flight paths, there are obvvious limitations. Back in the 70's and 80's, there was no automatic fire, no live grenades and you had to stop shooting everytime an aircraft flew into the danger area. We used to have to post sentries at the far north end to stop folks from entering.

Most bases used to have (and maybe still do) 25 yd ranges for pistols. There is or at least was,one at the airbase on Whytewold.

WPS used to have a contract with the Miller Road Range which is just west of McPhillips between the Perimeter and St Andrews.

If done properly they could get a pretty good chunk..
unfortunately there is no track record for the city selling stuff and getting a good deal.
