Eyeing Canada's first foreign trade zone
Several years ago there was some proposal to bring a transport hub to Winnipeg. Flying in all sorts of freight and then transporting it everywhere. I thought it was the stupidest thing I heard at the time. Freight from India to innipeg and then down to Chicago? Minneapolis? No common sense, no economic sense! Probably spent 100 million dollars or 1,000 dollars, all wasted.
This sounds exactly the same- an inland port, concentrating export oriented manufacturing, warehousing and multi modal distribution activities around the airport.
One big thing manufacturers import duty free! Wow what a concept. Today when I import anything with duty and export it, I put in some documents to reclaim the duty.
No other foreign trade zones in the country!
$212 million dollars to link the perimeter highway.
Buy the goddam jets with this money- that will bring more business than this waste of a lame idea.
What manufacturer is going to locate here in Winnipeg, when all the smart ones have gone to Mexico ,or the existing ones are importing from Asia!
Put a 100% import duty back on any goods and see our manufacturers come back, along with the higher prices for the consumer.
