Anyone else excited to see what sort of random stuff with be out this weekend?

WINNIPEG -- Winnipeggers are reminded to take advantage of Winnipeg’s first giveaway weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

Gather up all your unwanted household items, place "FREE" stickers
on each item, and place them at the curb on your front street.

Leftover items must be removed from the curb by dusk on Sunday.

Visit www.winnipeg.ca for more information.

It would seem the ideas creator's heart is in the right place, but I think this has disaster written all over it. I'm thinking it will give some morons out there an excuse to just take whatever they want out of peoples yards. It's inevitable.

I guess the cynic in me was thinking the very same thing. I kind of envision a couple of guys in a van ( one of many scenarios ) perusing front yards everywhere and helping themselves to anything that isn't nailed down.

The city has asked that we put "free" stickers on the items we wish to have considered for the program this weekend.

I get the feeling you'd see the most stuff out in front of homes in middle class neighborhoods. That's where I'd be looking. If garbage/recycling quantities ( why I notice this while driving to work is beyond me.. ) is any indication, I think they probably have more "disposable" stuff than some of the more upper crust neighborhoods.

I saw one parked on the street a couple of blocks over. If its there tomorrow, does that mean we can take it??

I live in south Tuxedo, trust me when I say that most of the people down here hold onto their crap forever, and by the time they do get rid of it, its junk. In the few times I've seen stuff at the side of the road it was nothing more than rubbish. Last month a friend and I stopped at a place down the road that was throwing out a dresser to the curb...it was missing a drawer! When we asked the homeowner if they knew where the drawer was they had no idea. How do you loose a drawer on the way to the road?!

I think most people in my area will just pay someone to haul it out so they can reduce the chance of actually having interactions with anyone else in the neighborhood. Never before have I lived in such a close minded, snobby, unfriendly neighborhood.

...Sorry that turned into a bit of a rant...

What happens if no one takes your junk? Do you have to take it back or can we just let it sit for ever.
