Edmonton residents face reduced hours at recreation centres and civic attractions, less facility cleaning and maintenance, and higher user fees as the city looks at ways to limit next year’s tax hike. Last April, councillors approved about $35-million worth of cuts, fee increases, transfers and other measures to deal with a looming financial shortfall spurred by the recession. EDMONTON — Edmonton Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for a 20-year-old man suspected in a jewelry store heist earlier this month.
Gagandeep Singh Rakhra, of Surrey, B.C., is described as five-foot-six and 117 pounds. He is wanted in connection with a robbery that happened on Sept. 7 in which a female store clerk was assaulted and restrained while two suspects emptied cases of jewelry. The two men fled through the back door into two waiting getaway cars. (Todays Edmonton Journal)

Here are some of "Jets4life" recent comments on SSP. I believe he is known here as "HurtinAlbertan"

"That does it. I'm moving back to Alberta once the economy gets a little better. This city is hopeless!"

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=128339&page=13

"Are things really that bad in Alberta,
economically speaking? I was laid off from my oilfield job in April. I
made a huge mistake by moving back to Winnipeg, rather than going to
one of the larger centres and accepting a lower paying job. Alberta is
the best place in the world, hands-down."

HA is that really you?

Heh heh. Doesn't really matter. Good thing the rest of us Winnipeggers don't take to heart what the Chicken Little's of the world have to say.

I'll take those kind of comments with a grain of salt. I would prefer though that those that feel free to run down the city and then run away (or stay away) that they actually try to do something that will help.

I guess it is easier to do nothing.

An Edmonton pedophile who molested two boys and sexually abused a young girl has been handed a 12-year penitentiary sentence and tagged a long-term offender.
That means when Harold Francis Pretty, 59, is released from prison into the community, he will be on probation under strict conditions for 10 years. (todays Edmonton Sun)

A judge will rule tomorrow whether a city mom who sexually abused her three-month-old baby girl — while the dad videotaped the “despicable” act — should be put behind bars.
At a sentencing hearing today, the Crown argued the 29-year-old woman should be handed a six-year prison term while her lawyer suggested she be given a two-year conditional sentence to be served in the community. (todays Edmonton Sun)

Report: Edmonton officers lack first-aid training

EDMONTON — Edmonton police Const. Dan Furman was bleeding to death
in 2006 from three gunshot wounds, but most of his fellow officers were
in shock and unable to help because they lacked training.
The same officers also didn’t help the man they shot nine
times, even though the police force’s own policy required them to
render first aid until paramedics arrived, says a fatality inquiry
report released Monday.

A routine traffic stop in west Edmonton turned up $35,000 of drugs and a loaded pistol, say cops.
Police on patrol near 135 Street and 114 Avenue stopped a truck speeding through the Westmount mall parking lot, about 1:15 a.m. last Thursday.
After finding drugs on a person in the truck, police searched the vehicle and found a substantial amount of drugs including cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, oxycontin and marijuana.
A loaded handgun was also seized from the truck.
The driver and passenger were arrested and were still in custody this morning. The Edmonton Sun)
