Considering that the moment they start getting sick they are shipped to Winnipeg, seems like a pretty stupid thing to do.....

But yeah I would think that EVERY town/city/ whatever should have a good number on stock in the event of a disaster. Its never a good thing when you just leave the bodies laying around. It helps to spread disease and it demoralizes the people.

Sorry, but this article made me chuckle. Someone at Health Canada thought that Body Bags might be needed, apparently everyone else's Political Correctness trumps all.

I seem to recall during..umm Katrina? yeah I think Katrina how that particular government was scrambling to find body bags everywhere.

Body bags are a normal part of disaster prep now. As sick as that sounds its a reality. The bodybags probably just arrived earlier then other stuff so were sent on. Yeah kind of a little stupid this lack of communication but at least supplies are being delivered.

What the frick were the people thinking that made this public? It makes sense that medical facilities have these on hand for any eventuality, but who would have made this info public? Obviously these weren't shipped to select households or targetted individuals, or to the community centre or church, but to some sort of health facility, presumably staffed by qualified medical personnel, so why does this become a matter of public knowledge? Do they announce receipt of rectal thermometers, or Preparation H, so why tell the world that they got a supply of body bags?

That said who was the twit that made the decision to release the body bags BEFORE medicine and related health care supplies were shipped? Surely someone understood the optics.

according to someone on freep... the body bags were PART of the shipment of other flu stuff like hand sanitizer and masks and such.

so basically a big shipment of everything they might need.. BUT the medicine, you know since the medicine is not currently available.

Now wouldn't that suck just a little bit if say tommorow they were hit with another round and since the medicine is not ready yet we never shipped them anything? Oh right, we would be to blame then too

little WHITE (thats important just wait) girl had some previous lung problems to being with such that she needed to carry oxygen at all times.. caught swine flu, ended up on respirator for a long time...came out of coma, got off respirator and now NO LONGER NEED TO CARRY OXYGEN... thats right folks... SWINE FLU saves lives.

Today's news suggested that the ERs were turning away record numbers. Just proves that the WRHA is an equal opportunity health care provider.

Seriously though. Aboriginals are disproportionately high abusers users of ERs as primary health care providers. Seems to reason then that they'd be turned-away disproportionately more frequently.

What DeanK said. These were not shippped alone, but with the "kits" that the Chiefs have been crying about. As far as the vaccine, I can already hear the press conference if even one person dies from the flu after receiving the vaccine. Its a no win. These assholes will complain about everything and anything, it grows so tiring.

It was mentioned in the CBC report that one of the reasons why they were pissed off was because of the perception that to have body bags invites death.....why all of a sudden now do they carp about something that has been shipped consistently over the years? I suppose since the big Health Conference is on at the Fort Garry may have something to do with it.

wait a minute I thought for most of them the "traditional" method was to burn the bodies on a pile of wood, or failing that leave the body in the woods for nature to take back?

doesnt this mean we should lay waste to all the trees where they live so as not to invite death?

This has to be one of the lamest headline grabbers yet as perpetrated by MKO and the Manitoba Assembly of Chiefs. As I keep saying there are far more important issues to present to the press like overcrowded and substandard housing, gang and drug problems, a low graduation from High School rate, teenaged pregnancy, FASD......the list is endless......WAKE UP CHIEFS.....do the right thing - bitching is not getting you anywhere but definitive action just might???

The irony of it all is. If the bags were not shipped and lots of people do die, they will cry foul because there were not enough bags at the local RCMP. They will b1tch and complain no matter what is done.

Just wait till the first report of some kid's death from drinking hand sanitizer hits the news.
