the province says it has offered help for pandemic planning on reserves 13 times since may
The feds say.. Manitoba never offered once.

http://www.winnipegsun.com/news/manitoba/2009/06/05/9689526.html

I would go with the province on this one, normally, but given how many mis statements, half truths, cover ups and outright lies that have been reported in the media lately about our provincial government I am going to have to go with the Feds.

Just for the sake of argument, did the Feds ask the provinces for help? Health care on the reserves is a federal responsibility remember.

Meh. This province is run by a bunch or morons. If Oswald was involved I can imagine she'd frick it up in real short order. Then Evil Doer and Chomiak would cover it up.

Holy Mackeral people are catching the Flu! Why don't we go back to that positive quote that 11,000 to 58,000 may die in Canada with a pandemic, whatever that is!
And the total number of deaths in canada that can be attributed soley to the flu this year is ZERO! And that is what all this reporting is worth!! ZERO!!!

Flu-like outbreak keeps hundreds of students away from Dauphin schools

An outbreak of a severe flu-like illness has hit the Dauphin area.
Almost half of the 280 students at MacKenzie Middle School did not show up for class Friday, said Jack Sullivan, superintendent of the Mountain View School Division.

How many normally catch the flu and then stay away from work , school?
Isn't this normal??

If I get the flu, I expect Stephen Harper to come to my house and make me chicken soup. I know that Iggy would do that if I voted Liberal.

another update on this.

I have a question. Why o why o why! would we not have a mobile lab/hospital in place that can respond to these 'outbreaks'.

How much sense does it make taking people out of a mostly isolated and introducing them into the most densly populated area of the province?

So now, the scare starts all over again?
I wonder how many of us have ever caught the H1N1 flu strain in our lifetime, without even knowing...

I think the construction of many of those reserve houses are crappy and prone to mold....no insulation and poor ventillation....very cold place....ta da...I've seen many right here in the Peg like that.

I was listening to Chief Harper whining on the CBC this afternoon.

Something about the plight of the Northern Reserves and how the N1H1 has become rampant up there.

Now...aside from the whole displacement thing from a hundred years ago...

Aren't the First Nation's People trying to declare themselves an actual "nation". Saying that they have their own right to govern themselves and their people...and that Canada should keep their nose out of it?

So part of governing is providing for yourself, and your people...not expecting another country to come rescue you whenever there's a problem. Sure, getting some aid and assistance is always helpful...but it should not be expected.

What he should be doing is convincing those living up there to step up to the plate and start working. Giving them a choice of "serve the community or get out of it".

Heh...but providing for yourself undermines the entire concept of entitlement they adhere to without waver.

No home is prone to mold if upkept properly.

You're right about that but with an improperly built house, it becomes almost impossible to keep it under control, and most people don't know how to keep it out to begin with.

seems to me that if a group, say a city or a town or village notices some of its houses falling to mold.. it would take the time to train their people how to stop mold from happening in the first place and how to possibly get rid of it.

Then again thats might just be me. Having lived in houses in northern Canada without running water and only wood heat for a good chunk of my life and never having that problem, perhaps my parents were just simply awesome.

Upkeep?? With 15 living in a home with 1 bedroom? Nothing that the government has ever done has been done in what we would call a "proper" River heights method. I wonder how contracts for homes are given out?
What would be the specs for insulation, double or triple vane windows?
Who is monitoring the construction quality?
Homes fall apart in 10 years- Who sent the aboriginals way up North in the 1st place? Government? habe the aboriginals move in with Harpr, in the parliament buildings until things are done properly.
Spending 8 billion per year? time to spend 32 billion and get it done right.

Yeah. Just another excuse rosen. Unemployment on reserves is absurdly high. Housing is in huge demand.

Duh...

Many reserves are in remote areas. Surrounded by trees.

Duh...

Roll up your sleeves folks. Get to fricken work.

Get off the reserves - everyone knows is the answer and get into communities, get a damn education, get damn training for carpentry, painting, plumbing , drywalling, get off your butt, and make something of yourself!
Maybe we have to take all the children away from their parents and have some Christian upbringing to give them a chance!
Oooppss the government tried that already- more mess, more apologies, more money, more of a mess!
