When I was there the food was 'adequate' or Perkinesque ...pretty much meh.

How is parking an issue? There's a parkade in FGP.

The spaces there were rented out by Bergen thus eliminating the restaurants parking. That was the problem.

How much of the parkade are they using up? I haven't parked there in at least a year but I thought it was like 3 levels.

I have no idea. I just learned those issues from the story.

Strange. Fort and Garry are normally pretty busy for parking but there always seems to be parking available on Broadway west of Garry. People might have to walk about 50 meters but if for some reason the parkade is no longer available, people could still park close. There's also a parkade a block away on Smith that always looks really empty. And there are normally spots on Garry on the other side of Broadway. What would Winnipegers do if we lived in a city that had actual downtown parking problems?

I think their bigger problem is that they are known for being overprices and with generally not very good food. The food might even be better now than it used to be but the place has a reputation of not being any good. That will hurt you a lot more than lack of parking. The Keg a block away does great business and they don't have any more parking than the Fort Garry.

The place is closed I believe umcrouc0.

The Keg has parking right outside their doors no?

But you are right. Bad food will do it every time. Perhaps we should put a Sal's in there. Smile

I've always just parked on the street when going to the Keg. Normally within a couple blocks. Do you mean a parking lot? Or parking on the street close to their door? There could be a small one there. Never used it so I've never noticed.

Yeah, they have a parking lot in front.

Okay. Never noticed it before.
Hopefully something good opens up there. It's a great location but they need to give people a reason to go there instead of somewhere else. If their market isn't willing to walk a block either the food isn't good enough, or they are going after the wrong market. There are tons of people living right around there who don't care about needing to find a parking space. Maybe that's a better market to try and cater to.

And this CAN be and SHOULD be available in Winnipeg; no reason why it can't work there.

Edwin, take some time to reread this thread. More then one of us has stated that we should focus on what Winnipeg has, not what it doesn't have. I am not attacking you or calling you down or anything else, I am just trying to help you understand that not all of us are miserable here.

Uh, hello in there. You already have a revolving restaurant built, sitting empty. It's there, waiting to be turned into something great. Take your biased opinions on me and put them aside for a few minutes and think, eastsider; think and use your imagination. Think of the potential. Think of something that could be among the best in Canada. Don't tell me this is too difficult for you, I don't believe that.

Granted it's no as tall as the CN tower, but the panoramic view of the city would still be absolutely amazing and unforgettable.

Ugh. That ploy isn't going to work anymore. Without getting into yet another EdWin vs. eastsider famous scrapfest, I'll ask you one more time; please open up your mind to the possibilities the revolving restaurant has. The rest is up to you.

Frankly that is a disingenuous (and a little condescending) argument. It sounds like the same argument used by the truthers ("it's the truth, trust me, but I refuse to explain why -- go do your own homework").

The argument you present EdWin is not that Winnipeg needs a revolving restaurant but that Winnipeg needs a revolving restaurant because someone else has one.

Dude, you already have it built; it's SITTING EMPTY. But then again, maybe you should just tear it down cause it's wasting space. Maybe that is the smartest thing to do?

WTF?

Do you honestly believe making stupid comments like "just tear it down cause it's wasting space" help you with your argument?

I'd be happy if a good restaurant were to open up in there. But that was NOT your argument. Maybe you just can't help yourself though. You feel the need to make derogatory comments about Winnipeg based upon what other cities have.

Maybe you should consider your position statement and start over. Stay on point. Here I'll help.

We have this wonderful opportunity to... I wonder who might...

/End my own sarcastic and condescending post.

I guess this disproves the theory that if you build it they will come. Bergen has a problem here that he alone will only be able to fix.

If there was any potential there, as existing, the joint would have been picked up a long time ago.

I"ve already stated this in one or two previous posts, as it was part of my argument. But if you choose not to listen to that, that isn't my problem.

I'm trying to figure out who Edwin is referring to as "you". I have no desire to go into the restaurant business, so why debate the point. Obviously, if there was a demand for the restaurant, someone would have picked it up by now. Would I go there if it was open, perhaps, but I just don't get the point of the whole argument.

Hey...instead of arguing about it amongst those who can't/won't do anything...DO SOMETHING.

I'd be willing to be involved...here's what we need:
1) Money - need some kind of financial backer...anyone have a connection for that?
2) Chef - someone to create/design the fabulous food, within a budget, and to prepare everything
3) Management - I wouldn't mind doing this part myself...as a job...I'd even take a discounted salary to start till it got going
4) Staff - who WANT to work, and are willing to actually serve well. Good wait-staff are hard to find...but if you have them...they can even overshadow a less-than-spectacular meal.
5) Marketing - this part is key. A "grand opening" should include local "celebrities", tons of media coverage (at no cost), and a public request to patronize the restaurant.

Of course there's other things that need to be focused on...but with these 5, plans can be drawn to cover those...things like a "theme" and renovations.

It really doesn't take much...if you have the right components at the start.
