Should we remove free health care to gang bangers, drunk drivers, and hardcore drug users? Why
should we pay to patch up a gang banger after another shoot out or a
drug users stomach to get pumped once a week. By no means do we refuse them treatment, but we simply bill them if they are convicted of a crime that caused their need for treatment in the first place?

Thoughts?

It'll never work of course. We are a nation of kind-hearted people who don't want anyone to suffer. That is evidenced through our criminal justice system.

Anywho, if we bill these people they will ignore it anyway. Or they'll step up their criminal ways to pay the bill. I was chuckling as I typed that sentence.

Seriously though it is a slippery slope. We've had similar debates. For example do we refuse treatment to smokers? The obese?

Better to develop a criminal justice system that truly punishes those that won't follow our laws. If you want to hurt someone else we'll lock you up in very uncomfortable surroundings for a very long time. Zero tolerance.

Want to kill or rape someone? We'll kill you back.

Make it very clear to all that there will be very serious consequences and maybe, just maybe, things will improve.
