Why doesn't Burton Cummings step up to the plate? Afterall it's his name on the sign.

I've read similar comments. Someone also said that Cindy Klassen should pony up for the renovations to Sergeant Park. Frankly I don't get the logic. I wonder why anybody would do anything for this community with such ungrateful attitudes that seem to prevail in this city.

Sigh...

Burton's got lotsa' moolah....Klassen doesn't.

I said it in half-jest....but it is strange that he is completely silent on the subject. Shouldn't we be using him to fund raise...or change the name? Weird.

if you read the article...he didn't want to do the 1st two shows he did...let alone any more.

and the two shows he did were estimated to raise $200k EACH...yet between the two they only raised $120k

He probably feels it's a lost cause at this point...and would probably rather have it demolished.

It should be noted that no matter what revenue those shows raised, $120k or $200k... That is still very generous. He could have starred in shows for himself and pocketed the moolah...

I think you missed the point GOM.

It was anticipated at $200k PER show...and raised only $120k TOTAL for the two shows.

If I was a performer of his caliber...I'd say "hey...sorry...but it's not worth it."

Of which his name is attached, not his money .

which is what he was very worried about before he allowed his name on it.

I go to that venue A LOT for small, sometimes obscure touring acts. Big acts too. It is a fantastic venue to see shows in - The Hives and Disturbed are two recent ones that come to mind. Both great shows not just because of the bands but because the bands were there.
The seats are great in the Burt - far more room than the new arena and the sound is great given the age of the building. Plus the Yellow Dog is across the street!

And in between it being the Walker and the Walker, it was the Odeon. Saw some good movies at that location. To me it is the Burt but that is only because that is the one time I actually enjoyed a Burton Cummings live concert (he played mainly by himself on stage with his piano).

Burton is a tit, but then again tits are useful so.... Smile I cannot stand him, he is an arrogant fool. Why the Walker was ever changed to the Burt is beyond me.

You don't understand the concept of naming venues for monetary considerations?

I was under the impression they named it after him because he was whining about how Winnipeg didn't recognize him and his contributions?? He initially wanted a holiday named after him. I use to see him at 7-11 and Safeway all the time, he is a jerk. I was laughing my ass off when I was behind him in line at Safeway and the young cashier had no idea who he was...he threw a hissy fit, in true Burton fashion!

Yes he was good at that and the whining was the reason notice Bachman did not whine with him . A much better ambassoder of this city.
