Let's talk leaders

Let this be a fun and stimulating exercise. People are talking about Manitoba needing a new party and/or leader - as being the only way to real and necessary change (on politics and the process in general). The given is that there's a frustration and growing disconnect with what "government" has evolved to.
So - who would be your ideal leader? The leader represents the new movement so it would be interesting as to who people see cast in that role. I think it would be telling of peoples' sentiment.
It doesn't have to be a local politician, activist or business person (or anybody local). The exercise is symbolic. So who would it be? Your answer could be Batman - which suggests crime and punishment is central in your sentiment.
Here are mine:
Shelly Glover. Inky Mark. Al Golden. Trevor Kennard.

I'll have to think about specific people before answering.

However, to make things a tad more interesting, why not give a brief explanation of why you would want a certain individual as a political leader?

I've spoken with a potential leader of such a party... He will need more convincing. But that individual brings character, integrity and passion to the position. I think he'd be a marvelous leader. I cannot publish his name.

Al Golden is a very curious choice. With his reputation in this city I'd have imagined him as the last person we'd want to lead a new party.

Shelly Glover seems to have some of the characteristics I like to see. I hope her current experience does not poison her forever.

I like Lloyd Axworthy. He has demonstrated a passion for Winnipeg that I find crucial in a leader of this new party.

What's odd is I can think of many more people that I would NOT want to see involved. Speaks very poorly of the current crop of politicos out there right now I think.

Grumpy, I knew that would be said about Golden. Fact is, he's a successful businessman with a few past taxation issues - I can look past that. He has the gonads to swim against the current and he's thrifty by nature. He's one of very few that could make enough waves to bring siginificant change in the city and province. The point has come where political correctness will be left in the trunk. The status quo must go - there's the slogan.

Those are some brutal choices. I do like Shelly Glover , however. I'd join any party she lead in a heartbeat.

Pink Lloyd is turning 70 this year and may wish to retire some day. I don't know if he has it in him to front a new party, given his age and Liberal heritage. Dr. Gerrard would not be pleased.

Leaders need to have some charisma , and none of these guys have it. You must have charisma to win. I am sure Mark , Golden and Kennard are competent , they just couldn't lead a team of people to win power in this province.

How would you rate Hugh McFayden in terms of charisma and leadership? I'd say he's pretty much invisible.

Actually Hugh McFayden is very charismatic but for some strange reason he stays underground when he should be shouting from the rooftops - that's how Doer did it - he critisized/opposed Filmon to death. This government is far more vulnerable yet they pretty much continue to operate unchallenged - or at best - challenged respectfully - which they don't deserve.
Charisma is one important quality however I believe their history is equally important. If those choices don't ring with you then there's nothing to debate - the point was to name your own.

Yep, the point is to name your own picks. Things get more interesting, though, if there's a brief explanation behind the choices. I'm suggesting this not to start a debate but just to see why people are picking their choices.

Agreed. Hugh needs to come out of his shell.

I have heard Ron Schuler's name being thrown about for replacing Katz . He would be alot like Glen Murray in my opinion.

How do you or would you expect this new leader to change the process, So as to make it better. Just curious any of you, what you will expect .
For without a major overhaul of the system it will not change , it can,t, it is to open to the abuse of the present .

I know he is semi retired now and an older man but we need someone like Johnny Buhler, a man not afraid to stand up and be counted. I remember when he purchased the Versatile plant and tackled the union head on, he didn't succeed but he gave it his all. That spoke volumes to me.........trouble is I can't think of any up and comer that has his character.

How about Leo Ledohowski? (As if he'd want to waste his time....)

After what Kives did on the Met you think Ledohowski would be targeted?
