Several Masonic Lodges in Manitoba have combined forces to bring an awesome event to Winnipeg.
It's a night at the Races. A fundraiser for the Lodges.
Date: November 22, 2008
Time: 7:00pm
Location: Shrine House on Wilkes Avenue
Cost: *$5.00 admission (Food will be available as part of admission fee)
(Tickets must be purchased in advance)
Cash Bar
Description of the event:
Horse Racing:
There is a track (on a table), two large spinning wheels, 6 wooden horses and a couple/few betting booths (the number of booths depends on the number of people expected to attend)
7 races held throughout the evening.
The first 6 races are “preliminaries”, the 7th race is the “finale”.
Prior to each of the first 6 races, there is an “auction” for each horse.
The person/people who win the auction now “own” that horse for that race. If that horse wins, the owner is paid a prize purse.
The winning horse of each of the first 6 races participates in the 7th race, with the same owner. The owner of the horse that wins the 7th race is paid a 2nd prize purse.
After the auctions are complete, the betting round begins. Odds are determined by the # of bets placed per horse.
Then the race begins. One wheel is spun to determine which horse moves, the other wheel for the number of spaces the horse moves.
First horse to cross the finish line EXACTLY wins. (Horses have to land exactly on the finish line…this prevents a horse from just running away across the line).
Collect your winnings, and prepare for the next race.
Wagers & prizes vary, but in previous events have provided prizes in excess of $500.
There will also be a prize draw, and a door prize.
The more people who attend, the better (and bigger) the prize purses.
All winners are paid after each race.
