It says she also went missing in April 2008. This girl is a future drain on our tax dollars.

One has to wonder if she lives at home right now ( okay well before she ran away) or if this is a group or foster home thing ( which unfortunately can result in people running away for good reason)

Thre are plenty of homes which give kids a good reason to run away as well.

If a child is running away all the time there are deeper problems.

We were involved with a young girl running away from home just last week. She refused to go home (the mother is a total whack job) and CFS wouldn't respond until the next day. So, the mother didn't want her around where I work, CFS didn't have a clue, so her choice of places to spend the night was......?

Nice system isn't it?

The system is oveer burdened by too many people who are too incompetent to do their job and managers who are more concerned about serving their political masters than the kids they are supposed to protect.

What he said.

I understand there is a plan afoot to standardize & accredit social workers. This way we can be certain the bleeding heart quotient is fully endorsed.

/cynicism.

I think it was yesterdays FP, theres a LTE from Tom Simms saying why the system of accrediting social workers is such a bad idea. Does the expression self serving come to mind.

Isn't getting a degree in Social Work enough 'accreditation'?

Most professions have associations which outline requirements for membership. They set a standard of duty, eg CA, CMA. CGA, Engineers, Doctors, Nurses, etc and that includes ongoing professional development and certification. Such does not exist with social workers, yet when you consider their track record, something is defnitely lacking.

Yes well these groups help there are many bad doctors, you do not hear about as there groups keep lids on them , and accountants don,t even go there. Well it is a good Idea it is something that is not going to be the savior or whatever if the profession . I do support it though.
And yes as a MSW I think I have enough accreditation but then some thought that of Bernie Madoff, wasn,t he a accountant of finical advisor of some sort.
All proffesions have there bad and there good .
