You make a good point umcrouc0. However, Canada Post shows a profit. And Canada has a much more rural base to deliver to...

To your point about "obscene" profits... How so? If the rates were so outrageous people simply would not use the service. And there is a fair bit of competition out there.

Companies like FedEx and UPS grew so big because there was a demand that post offices were not meeting. And as private companies they have incentives to streamline their business and improve productivity that maybe the average government run organizations do not appreciate.

That's why governments ought not be in business.

Not obscene profits, but obscene rates for some services in my opinion. Shipping isn't cheap but they really take advantage of people wanting it there before 8 instead of 10 the next day. And often it doesn't actually show up until 10 anyway but you don't get any of the extra money back.
With Canada Post, Purolator does well for them. There have been some disputes from UPS that Purolator is getting an unfair advantage in Canada because of their relationship with Canada Post, which increases their market share to subidize the rest of their business. At least that's UPS's argument. Maybe they are just run well.

I got my MRI results yesterday! Two herniated discs in my lower back and a pinched nerve. My appointment with a back specialist was bumped to next week instead of mid October.

LOL I hear ya, my doctor offered my a sedative before my appointment but I refused. I should have definitely took the sedative. Good thing for the cool air blowing on my face or I probably would have freaked out!

My Dad had an appt for a cat scan today. They made him wait for over an hour and when they called his name they informed him the machine wasn't working so they would call him to re-schedule. What a bunch of BS....

It pretty much happened on it's own over time, but what tipped it over the edge was when I spent an afternoon tearing up a large patch of grass in my yard to build a garden. I'll probably have low back issues for the rest of my life. The pain is controlled quite well with narcotics though! LOL

I slipped on my stairs and bumped my arm, which tore my rotator cuff. I was /am surprised at how little it took to do so much damage.

My fricken age really hit home. I gotta' keep reminding myself I'm not some kid of 40 anymore. Wink
