breathing is far more dangerous simply because it happens more often.

My mother-in-law is wise and well educated too.
She knows tons about various ailments & diseases...listens to symptoms and can usually pinpoint what's wrong.

She's also paranoid of water, swimming, bees, and traveling anywhere outside the Perimeter.

It's this ultra-paranoid world of scrubbing & cleaning every little surface and covering all our pores that creates the problem. By NOT exposing ourselves to various elements and diseases...our body is not able to gently and gradually build immunities to things...so we now have a society of "hyperactive immune systems" and hypochondriacs.

I found an interesting article somewhere (might even have been posted on here)...that Health Canada is encouraging parents NOT to have "flu" parties to help expose their kids to the H1N1 virus. Apparently 30 years ago...it was a common practice for families & friends whose kids had chicken pox...to have a big party so everyone could get them...and let their bodies build up immunities.

My mother in law is not some old paranoid broad but a woman who was well -respected in her professional circles. As well I am not one of these germ freaks who has lysol covering every surface....I cook in third world countries so I kind of had a chuckle at that one.....yes, AMERICAN culture with their need for perfectly white teeth, non stinky armpits, perfect toenails, and antiseptic houses has created a monster....and the over prescribing of antibiotics in this country does not help either.

I do not have a hyperactive immune system....I have MS. That means I have a fu*ked up system - PERIOD. I believe I have the right to be cautious.

Actually AA and MizP both have valid points. We do seem to be overly-protective and our systems don't have an opportunity to build up immunities from some bugs. Then again some of the common flu bugs circulating today are extremely virulent and much more dangerous than 20, 30 and 40 years ago.

So don't spit in my presence and I'll cover my mouth and nose when I cough or sneeze.

Depends on the country.....the life expectancy in a place like Belize is actually quite high - comparable with ours.

AGEsAces- what company was that? Are they hiring? Where do you get great stuff like that? That is hilarious!

MizPoint- a few questions on some of your posts."Woman well- respected in her professional circles" never , not ever happened!
"hyperactive immune system- is that what causes the middle finger to be so over active?

"wise, well-educated, researched woman"- again more BS about females!

"not espouse any ridiculous notions"- now you have got what women are all about!

"schmatte" haven't heard that in decades! Thanks for the reminder regarding your background! maybe I am wrong on this negativity of "some" women?

Let me know if you don't agree with my assessment of blond women! lol

I will take the quality of life that i have lived in that country any day over the so-called quality of life here......btw the median life expectancy for Belize is over 71 years of age......that is 71 years lived with a come what may attitude, a love for beer, fishing, making love, fishing, laughing.....get it?

No. I love stress.

Besides a goodly chunk of our population live with a "come what may attitude, a love for beer, fishing, making love, fishing, laughing" attitude funded by the rest of us that work...

they will go fishing first, then to Vegas, have a plenary session, commission five more studies and get back to us when they feel they have the answer that suits their needs.
