Brooklyn grandma got more than she'd bargained for when she rented a copy of "Austin Powers" from her local library and found it spliced with long pornographic scenes.

Esther Klein got the tape from the Borough Park branch for her three grandkids, ages 7 to 15. The X-rated footage appeared as the credits rolled at the end.

Klein contacted her assemblyman, Dov Hikind -- and he's now demanding that local libraries ban all VHS tapes.

"This is unbelievable," Hikind fumed. "The bottom line is that the local library can be unsafe for young children. It's pretty sick stuff."

The Brooklyn Public Library said it had the problem under control and would remove the tape.

But Hikind said that showed "unbelievable chutzpah," and added that therapists have warned that children can suffer lasting psychological damage from exposure to pornography.

To any technically minded people here. It would be next to impossible to physically splice a piece of videotape and have it work properly throughout the tape.

The signals on a videotape or digital audio tape are recorded in helical-scan fashion. You'd have to have highly professional equipment to do that.

And even so, you'd have to virtually duplicate the cassette shell and very, very carefully remove the Library's labels and very very carefully put them onto the new shell.

All this news is really stupid. I'd rather hear more about MJ than this sh1t.

Possibly, maybe... this story could have happened... in the 1980s. But today's kids (or even young adults) are so much into digital technology...not involving physical tape, but digital MP3 MP4 etc... They just wouldn't waste their time on doing something like this.

I would beg to differ. Most hardcore porn degrades women and it isn't for the eyes of a child. I have nothing against porn but I sure as hell don't want my kids watching it. I don't want my son and daughter thinking that is what sex is....I would like them to equate sex and love as one. I want them to respect their bodies as well as the bodies of others.

Difficult, but not impossible if you have a lot of time on your hands. In this particular instance, I surmise the original footage was merely "taped over" and not "spliced".

"Spliced" lends a sort of technical legitimacy to the story, and I guess that's what sells papers.

Still, it'd be more fun to do with a library DVD. Probably easy, too. Mulan, meet Debbie...

LOL I had friends that got $200 fines and 100 hours community service for..

Renting a porn movie on VHS. Copying said porn movie to another VHS tape. Taking the VHS tapes apart and taking the original out of its case and putting the copy into the other case. putting it all back together and then returning the movie. They got caught because they forgot to rewind so when the store rewond it... it fell apart.... :LOL

LOL the explanation of why they did something so absolutely stupid? They were stoned and thought it would be cool to own an original..
