If there were no soldiers to mourn that day then sure, whatever.

Newspapers are put out by private companies who want to sell copies. Even if you don't agree with it Jackson's funeral is the biggest story in the world right now. Paper will publish whatever will help them sell, not what they fell good about reporting.grumpy old man wrote:We are talking about should an entertainer's death be placed on the cover of a newspaper instead of a Canadian soldier. I don't agree with that. Not when their competition has it. They don't have a large subscription base and sell a lot of copies at retailers. For events that people find imporant enough they will sometimes buy multiple copies and keep the front page. I personally didn't watch any coverage of the funeral and didn't read anything about it because I'm not interested, but a ton of people are.Deank wrote:Had they NOT published MJs funderal crap on the front page... there would have been no difference in sales.

Right. And were the soldier's on the front cover when they died or not?!?! The ramp ceremony is secondary.
Or are you saying that each dead soldier should be on the front page TWICE?

the point being that niether a$$hole newspaper should have had it as front page news.
Well, it's situations like this that make me really not get the argument to cut funding or privatize CBC. They are the only media outlet that has the expectation to actually give balanced reporting to local stories. Everyone else out there is just running whatever crap they think people will buy. I don't think you can expect much from the Press or Sun because they're really no different than a privately run magazine.Deank wrote:just cause thats their job... does not make them assholes
It's the only one that you can call out for not being balanced. The rest are a bunch of crap but that's what's expected. With CBC if you don't think it's balanced it's totally reasonable to expect something better from them.grumpy old man wrote:The CBC balanced? Really? Go on you say. Not!
rosencrentz wrote:Lots of hot air here! The different news outlets decide what to run, and I can assure you they ask ,"what will our reader's be most interested in!"
It is that simple! Wpg Sun would normally run with a naked lady, the Sungirl! After that a good aboriginal story, then a beating or death in the NorthEnd! Then a story of some hooker hitching a ride with an old Jew from Wellington Crescent!
Then a story about? What is left??
