Yes I had a uncle in Toronto which was involved in the design of the plane or some part of it . it was one of the worst things this Prime Minister did to this country . Most of the talent with Avro went on to design the moon shot and its components . We lost some of our best minds at the time so we saved some bucks shame .LivingDead wrote:My Friend's Father was an engineer on the Arrow project. He is still mad to this day that the project was canceled. He said we sold out as a country when we allowed the USA to dictate to us what we can and can not develop.
Maybe we should have spent some Time and Energy making Nukes after WW2, and then Diefenbaker could have Called Johnson's bluff and told him to "fuck off, we have nukes and are not afraid to use them".

But that's sort of what we do if we're good in any industry that requires some government support and the conservatives get into power. The same thing is going to happen to our nuclear industry by cancelling Maple and setting AECL up to fail. Mulroney started trying to destroy Canada's expertise in this industry by killing the Pinawa reactor and shutting down the URL. Even though we were leading the world in trying to find an effective storage system for nuclear waste, experiments funded by other countries were forced to stop. Now Harper's picked up where he left off and wants us to completely drop off the map in nuclear technology. Cuts to CSA programs are also killing our robotics expertise. I don't really know why there's such a push to only really support technology if it's related to extracting oil. It's a strange thing. Maybe there's a secret plot by the conservatives to take our technology back to the 50's with hopes that we will acquire socially conservative views in the process.

Lots of projects contracted by other countries who don't have a good way to deal with their waste but the Canadian researches were regarded as some of the best to go to for trying to figure it out.
