Oh, the tales Thor would tell if he could only talk.

His owners, Aimee Desrochers and Ryan Marlowe, would have a clearer picture of how Thor -- a chocolate lab -- was dognapped and returned to them earlier this week.

The Winnipeggers reunited with their pooch after they went through a hellish 30 hours of searching, spreading the word, and hoping for a happy ending.

"We stayed pretty positive through it. It was only 30 hours but periodically you get these really bad thoughts," Desrochers said yesterday. "It was just such a load off our shoulders and a relief to see that he was unharmed."

Their misery came to an end when they got a call from a man who told them he found Thor near Arlington Street and Redwood Avenue in the North End.

The man told them he was unaware of the media coverage and got their phone number off an ID tag attached to Thor's collar.

Desrochers and Marlowe hurried to St. James, where they met the man and Thor, who was excited and hungry, at a Conway Street home about 11 p.m.

"When he ran up to us you could tell he missed us," Marlowe said.

The couple gave the man, who wants to remain anonymous, a $1,000 reward.

See Winnipeg Sun story here.

Would you offer a reward? How much would you pay to get your pet back?

If the person who took the reward had a decent bone in his body, he would have told the couple to keep the money or donate it to the humane society but as is the norm, people are only in it for the money. As for the couple whose dog was stolen, shame on them for even leaving the dog in the vehicle in the first place. Would you leave your child in the car to run into the store? If you consider your pet part of the family, treat them the same as you would any other part of your family.

Depends on the store.
WalMart? a Mall? certainly not (though I remember my parents doing it when I was a kid)
7-11, or to go pay for gas? Quite probably...especially if kids are sleeping, or if my dog is with me...somewhere I can have an eye on my vehicle...and lock it.

I suspect the guy that claimed the reward is connected to the arseholes that stole the truck.

As for leaving my dog in the car, never, ever in the summer. But yes, for short stops, in the spring, fall and winter. I am most cognizant of the weather conditions when I let my dog accompany me on my errands.

No doubt about it. Perhaps one and the same.

I know I'd pay $1000 in a heartbeat. No doubt about it. I'd think a while but I'd also pay $10k. Beyond that????
