Anyone here with experience owning a mobile home? I'm wondering what costs I might encounter with the purchase, relocation, and lot rental costs associated with owning one.

Lived in one in Riding Mountain was very cheap to heat but was very not very sound proof as you could hear all noises . Never had to relocate it but was told it was not that cheap to do . this was 26 yrs ago . it was a Bowes brand . forget how old not that old though I bought it used .

I looked into it when shopping for a home 5 yearsish ago. The mobile home parks in and around Winnipeg are quite costly for space rental. like 450 per month in one place. plus you still pay taxes on top of that. The homes themselves have come a long long ways since when Iived in one growing up. All sorts of styles and you can actually buy used ones for under 10 grand. We have 3 or 4 or 5 mobile home builders in and around Winnipeg so lots of selection and competition. so even new is less the 80 for top of the line I seem to recall ( but building costs have gone way up since 5 years ago). Moving well depends.. most around Winnipeg should be fine less then 3 grand. Its if you run into areas that you have to move it under a powerline that will nail you. 1500? something like that per line you have to cross for the hydro guys to come out.

One of the mobile home parks is closing just outside the peg though. so lot rentals might be few and far between soon or it might go up.

Hydro lines & bridges should not be a big issue. Phone lines are a big problem though, cause they tend to droop more.

Mobile homes (by code) are not supposed to be more than 14' high with the wheels on. (some people jack them up a couple feet when they park them)

What Dean said is pretty accurate though for costs.

As far as living in them goes...make sure (in Manitoba) to put some kind of skirting (preferably insulated) around the bottom of the trailer once you have it set. Otherwise, your water lines could freeze.

When I lived in one, it was in New York, and more than 20 years ago...but from what I've seen out there...the basics haven't changed much.
