Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz wants the city's young people to nominate someone they think should be named "Senior of the Year."
Katz launched the inaugural award on Friday as a way to acknowledge the achievements of people he called a "major asset to Winnipeg's history and future."
The catch is, the nominations must come from Winnipeggers under the age of 18, he said. It's a way to bridge the gap between the generations, Katz suggested.
"I've always said what makes Winnipeg great is our people. As mayor, I am very proud to celebrate the role of our seniors and acknowledge the efforts made by our city's builders," he said.
There are four categories for the award, including:
* Active living (fitness, recreation, sports).
* Arts and literature.
* Caregiving and humanitarian.
* Leadership and community service.
Nomination forms, and more details about the categories, are available by clicking the link at the top right of this page.
There's not much time to submit the nomination form, since the deadline is June 1.
