Nope. I land in Toronto on 25. June. Still haven't bothered getting myself a flight from there to Winnipeg but I presume I'll land the same day there. In any case I should be in Winnipeg by the weekend. 26. June is a Friday.

Nope. Almost all flights go to Europe, but to Europe one can get direct flights to a surprising amount of places. When it comes to the Americas, most of the transportation is goods, not people.
EDIT: Oh, and on an Icelandic standard, it's already summer in Winnipeg.

Not that I've heard of. I just checked the two airliners in Iceland. The province of Manitoba and the Icelandic authorities are working together on getting people to Gimli though, so you might have heard about something they're planning on putting together. I decided very early on though, to not go through the Icelandic authorities, they'll just add extra red tape and loops to jump through. My faith in the Icelandic authorities is well below zero. I avoid everything that has anything to do with the Icelandic government if I possibly can.
I probably wouldn't even take unemployment benefits from them, even if I were without a job, because prostituting oneself or starving to death is probably less painful than dealing with the government.

Gimli had an old airforce base. I don't think it is used for commercial flights (me being a smart ass)... In fact the day of the Gimli glider it was being used as a race track. It is also a commercial/industrial park now.
