Talk about chickens crossing the street!?
They escape Chicken Delight, alive and well...
They cross the street... beheaded and plucked, ready for the roast...

Hmm, apparently people don't eat out much, or at least not at affordable prices.

Here's what I'm looking for:
Do people have similar suggestions (to Bistro Dansk)? Good homecooking for $15 or less...

I'm looking for some European/American/Canadian food, similar to the filet mignon, shnitzel, and meatballs you can get at Bistro Dansk for, yes, around $15. I was expecting answers like Pete's Place, Park Tower, etc.

Anyway, I think I might head over to Lovey's for some good ol' BBQ, though I was just there last night.

Asian's what I eat at home, day in and day out. Normally we do go out to a Chinese restaurant (Golden Terrace 99% of the time and Southland recently) when we eat as a family, but it's my birthday and I'd like to do something different, like Bistro Dansk. I'll keep those Asian recommendations in mind, though, as long as they don't serve North American style Chinese food. I called it homecooking because, well, I'm assuming most of you consider Bistro Dansk to be like homecooking, which people's responses also seem to confirm.

I also don't do chain restaurants, so Aalto's, McDonald's, etc. are out. Paladin is okay, though I found it kind of bland. I'll try Alycia's some other time - perogies aren't really my mom's thing. I haven't been to Amici's, but I did enjoy Bombolini's food and prices. Vietnamese can't compare to my mom's, but our favourite joint is Phuong Nam on William. They've got excellent food. La Fiesta was just alright in my books; must not be my thing. And yeah, Chop is expensive! I'm going to 529 for lunch sometime next week though, and I was just at Pizzeria Gusto today for lunch! The DJ pizza was right on.

We could stay home and make steaks, but then we'd have to clean up and what's the fun in that on your birthday?

Good Post!

And cook on them too? Not environmentally friendly, at any rate.

There are some very good restaurants, in that price range- Tuxedo Village Inn on 2090 Corydon Avenue- Star Grill at the Assiniboine park Conservatory, Kelekis Restaurante.
I love the veal at both kelekis and Tuxedo village, and the portions are large.

You mean Bunty's?

try the gasthous gutenberger lunch buffet, excellent food at an affordable price, seventeen i think for lunch, but same food would be 100 for two at dinner time.

Garwood Grill will go on my list.
I've always been wary of Gasthaus Gutenberger (I've heard good and bad firsthand reviews and also a tendency to be fried and unhealthy?). At any rate, for $50 a pop, I'll probably head over to Beaujena's or Cafe Dario. I was looking for something around $20 at the end of the day for this particular evening - hence affordable.
We ended up at Lovey's, where we spent about $45 for 5 people for the Mixer and an extra potato salad. Good ribs!

I'm not a big rib fan so Lovey's wouldn't be my choice.

well I guess if you are crazy enough to pay for mac and cheese, there is really no limit to the amount of crazy you will do so that kind of makes sense
