Winnipeg Police New High Speed Interceptor

Due to the constant abuse and vehicular hatred directed at Winnipeg Police cruisers an effort has been made to upgrade the vehicle fleet. Soon to be seen crusing the streets of winnipeg this summer will be 10 of the newly aquired Dodge Challenger R/T's. Fully dressed with all the standard issue lights and becons.

The Winnipeg Polices' aging Crown Vic's have been on the chopping block for almost 4 years and with a struggling automotive sector an opportunity to partially upgrade there high speed interceptors was just to sweet a fruit to pass up.

Now introducing the standard issue

2010 Dodge Challenger R/T Interceptor

Powered by a 5.7L (345 cu in) HEMI
398 lbft (540 Nm) Torque
375 brake horsepower
5-speed automatic transmission
Anti-spin differential 1:3.73
20-inch chrome wheels

I don't see how this blazing fast cruiser will do anything to stop the idiots from ramming it or other cruisers.

Cool I actually saw one of those on the road tonight. At first I thought I was seeing things. Up close the car looks pretty damn cool, like out of a movie or something.

CKY was saying this was just a promotion car was not slated for service yet , we might get one or two for traffic duty as they are too small for regular duty . Is being used to promote the marathon . Cool though .

I hope this doesn't have the opposite effect and have these dumb kids deliberately ram these cars because they're so hot looking.

Or race it to see who's faster.

The story said 10 of these cars will be put in service.

I would love to see those out on cruise night!

*edit* I saw a grey Dodge Challenger ghost car on patrol in Kenora this week. Keep that in mind when speeding to your campsites May long!

Waste of a good Challenger. Various state police in the USA and the RCMP have had "muscle" cars for highway patrol, but I can't see how this would be effective.

Especialy since the policy is no pursuit in Resendatial or dangerous areas like crowded streets.

They could always use a brand new flashy FIAT 500...

Don't they know Chrysler/Dodge is going out of business?

Its winnipeg... we are famous for our going out of business deals!

And they did say they got a deal too good to pass up I believe.

It'd be kinda' neat to see those Fiat 500's on our streets....fitted out with a Hemi.

My first car was a white '69 Fiat 500, 7th owner!
Put bigger wheels on her and made a (once famous) "Jet Hot on Ice" poster on the back motor's trunk. The gears were not syncronized. They say that once you learn to drive this car, you can drive any car.

after looking into the specs i posted above and comparing them to what i can find on the Dodge website.. the police interceptors are just stock Challenger R/T's with the 20" chrome wheel option.. they don't even have the 6.1 liter STR Hemi.

i'm kinda disappointed.

This is WPG and we probaly got a deal.
