CTV news announced today that the new police HQ is likely the old Canada Post building on Graham. An announcement is expected tomorrow (Friday, March 27).

Seems like a good location. What innovative complaints will this generate? Any NIMBYers have something against this locale?

I think its a great location. All the drunks and panhandlers in the skywalk can have walk-in service. The cops don't even have to go outside to collect them.

Sounds like a great location to me!

I work in the area, and use the sky walks in winter, outside sidewalks in the summer and this would add a extra police presence, which is never a bad thing in this area.

That building is connected by sky walk to a Timmy's, and has underground parking for the police fleet, how could you go wrong? Smile

There's public parking out front for about 20 cars. They could also open up the parking ramps in the back to public as well. Oh, and the public parcade under the library is right across the street, connected by skywalk.

You suppose they will re-purpose the building (all or part) or tear it down and build new?

I would think that anything short of a complete gutting would be useless.. maybe even as far as tear down? dont know.. but a complete gutting for sure

If the existing post office was built to federal standards...little would have to be done.

All the exterior walls would be reinforced steel mesh and designed for extreme damage control.

Interior gutting is relatively inexpensive...though adding holding/cells and storage areas would cost a bit.

It seems the current building is a historical building.
If it is the taxpayers will end up fixing up the old building anyway because the historical people will never let it be demolished. Crying or Very sad
And no private business will do it without some sort of government (taxpayer) help because it will not be considered profitable.

sad just sad.. we cant let anything go it seems. Its falling apart and even though we dont want it... we will probably end up fixing it somehow anyway.

Tear it down.. put up a brand new condo development
