Yeah, it would be sweet to get the suite. Besides, since he didn't come through with AC/DC tix for your sandbox friends, I figure Leo owes us. He's a respectable family man and wouldn't be caught dead at a show like this.

LOL. I won't be attending this show. I've seen Megadeth and I have no desire to see Slayer. My hubby is going.

One of my buddies who is a merch manager at the MTS Centre said that they sold about 5,000 tickets for the show. In his words, not bad but not good, either.

Suicide Silence - mediocre, derivative scream-core thrash band, instantly forgettable. The lead singer's attempts to get the audience to sign along weren't great.

Machine Head - a step up from the opening band, but they didn't do much for me. One of the guys sitting behind me said that he was nuts about them, having listened to a lot of their music lately, something I have never done.

Megadeth - excellent. They were welcome relief from the speed-at-all-costs sound of the first two bands. Megadeth have plenty of recognizeable songs and guitar riffs, which sounded fairly clean and well-played to me.

Slayer - intense. The lead singer said that they first played Winnipeg 25 years ago (Le Rendezvous in 1984, I believe) and asked if anyone was at that show. Many people raised their hands, jumped and shouted in the affirmative. Smiling in disbelief, he asked the question over again and fewer people seemded to respond.

For me, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax and Metallica are largely living off of their notoriety and successes from over 20 years ago. Look at their setlists. A good chunk of what Slayer and Megadeth played was old material and it was the old material that garnered the most response. Both played new songs, but they seemed woefully unremarkable, compared to each band's best material.

Anyone who follows metal knows that, like always, there are few really inventive new-ish bands around. I had the pleasure of seeing one of them, who are now managed by the same folks who manager Slayer, Mastodon. Their new album is complex, musically interesting, with the type of effort you rarely see bands give in the metal genre. Mastodon are sort of progressive-psychedelic-metal, if I can dare try to label them. They aren't one of the founders of a new style of metal, unlike Slayer, Metallica, etc., so they may never have the type of hype and media attention that could bring them to headline arenas.

Prior to showtime, I ordered an Arby's Beef-n'Cheddar sandwhich. It was $3.79, whereas at the Fleetwood Mac show, I'm sure I paid $5 for it. I wonder if the vendors change their prices depending on the audience.

I also noticed that two of the four Slayer t-shirts they had for sale at the show, were decidingly Nazi-esque in appearance. One featured a skull wearing what looks very much like a Nazi officer's hat.

The other featured an Third Reich eagle combined with a pentagram for good measure.

Slayer have used Nazi inspired artwork for quite some time. Odd when you realize that the lead singer is Mexican-American, not exactly the kind of guy who would escape the death camps in WWII.

Is that saying Nazis are good? Or that Nazi's are slayers?

As for the Arby's, I'll bet that certain acts demand a cut of concessions, which affects the sell price.

or there was a sale.

I went to my first ever Goldeyes game on Sunday, I was amazed at how much cheaper the concessions were (an how many more choices) as compared to MTS centre. Beers were only $4.50 which are a far cry from $7.00.

I prefer to have a meal before or after the show/game/event. But the kid has got to have that damn cotton candy for $4.

I don't know why Slayer think that Nazis are cool. They lost the war, didn't they? Plus they had a lunatic as leader.

I think it was more the Nazi's use of imagery they (Slayer) found cool, which (if I remember my history) was originally designed for psychological impact.

He said it was great! Slayer is one of his favorite bands so of course he loved them!
