Cause cab drivers have their own doors to escape through should the vehicle be in an emergency situation.

Putting a shield around the driver would simply create another hazard, unless the bus was redesigned so the driver has his own entrance.

A panic button would be something simple...and ideally activated by pushing it with a foot...so it could be secretly activated by the driver easier.

what new hazard would it create? Seems to me that if they can get off the bus now in the event of trouble.. even with a shield they could still get off the bus... or stay on it and be protected until help arrives?

umm...there's no doors on the driver's side of the bus.

So...putting a shield up around the driver, means you're basically locking him into his chair.

Should something happen that requires him to get off the bus quickly...he now has a shield in his way from a means of escape.

opening the shield would be no different then opening the gate beside him already. And leaving the shield closed would mean they could not get at him in the first place.

He should drive really fast then slam on the brakes making the icehole slam through the front windshield. Then the driver could get out of his chair and beat the living sh1te outta the dude.
