It just goes to show that Federally the NDP are totally clueless. And Iggy and the Libs are merely playing their typical political game.

Horsesh1te if you ask me.

If anyone on the opposition had even a modicum of common and business sense they'd know nobody can ramp up to meet that kind of increased demand overnight. Training, offices, computers, management.... This all takes time.

Iceholes!

Evil Doer plays the same games. He and his peons keep pointing their fingers at the Conservatives for the state of the health care system. Conveniently forgetting they've been in the driver's seat for what 10 years? 12?

Healthcare could have been fixed by now.
1. Allow private facilities and encourage as many to be built as possible by eliminating all business taxes. Make MB the business-friendly capital of North America.
2. Axe the new but useless bureaucrats.

businesses use the roads too
businesses are allowed to dump snow for free in the snow dumping sites.
businesses use alot of stuff.. why should they not pay some sort of fee/tax for this usage?

Well I applied for EI yesterday, I'll let you guys know how long it takes!
This is only day 2 of being laid off and I'm already bored!!! I just hope the economy picks up sometime in the next year so I can get back to choo choos!

To create new jobs. Keep the ones we have. Attract new business to the province. Change the perception that Manitoba is NOT business friendly.

There is a need to distinguish between what taxes they should collect though. Payroll taxes? Business licenses? Profits? Other extraneous taxes?

There is a totally on line process that should make the process seamless and quick. How did you apply?

get a job!
heh... so what field of work are you/were you in? And is there nothing available in that field right now (or at least a similar one?) or is this.. apply now because thats the way the rules work and you think you might actually have a job before you even get your first EI payment?

I applied online. And I was/am a train conductor at Canadian Pacific. We're lucky only 32 conductors working out of Winnipeg laid off right now. Out west some terminals have guys with as much as 25 years seniority laid off. Rail traffic across Canada is down 40%

Its a temporary layoff, when the traffic goes back up, Ill get called back. But we were told it could be as long as a year.

yeah was just reading that today about the train guys...Is it worth it to switch to something else now? Is there even something comparable in a different line of work?

I thought we already argued that conductors for orchestra's are useless and provide no value? Didn;t I win that arguement?

I don't recall losing an argument. If I am in danger of that I will simply block your IP address.

you wont just log in as a "good friend" of yourself to support your own arguement first before blocking my IP? cool...

It all depends on how long you work there, I have less than a year seniority so I got cut. The most senior guy laid off in Winnipeg has only 4 years service.

A huge percentage of the railroad is eligible for retirement in the next 3 to years 5 years, until those old guys retire I'm always going to be on the layoff bubble.

I definitely don't want to go into a new line of work, I love my job, high pay, great pension, easy work. Only downside is dealing with the layoffs and working outside in the winter!
