Who Goes To Warm Places for a Winter Break?

Is it life threatening to go to Mexico or the Carribean? This lady dies after being smashed in the head, others in mexico are killed!
Yesterday a traffic accident, I think in the U.S.
What do you think and do about safety when you are out on vacation?

I have no desire to go to Mexico after all the news items coming out of there.

Dominican, Jamaica, Barbados etc for me. I've been to Mexico and Barbados....time for Dominican or Jamaica man.

That lady got her head bashed in on the beach in Barbados, and her daughter-in-law is recovering from the attack.

There is no such thing as being "safe" anywhere, anymore....even in your own home. The Dominican Republic is no better. Travel outside of your tourist compound and you will get rassed and robbed....Jamaica - the anger is always bubbling at the surface....Barbados? - too many damned people.

Cuba, I would say, would be about the safest bet for those novice travelers who have never had to deal with harassment on a holiday.

As i stated in another thread, I personally do not find Mexico to be dangerous and \I wander off the beaten path a lot....that being said \I have worked in some strange places so perhaps my idea of safety is going to be vastly different from that say, of a vacationer.

All I can say is when on vacation, do not let your guard down. You wouldn't do that here so why be more relaxed in another country? One thought that I keep in mind when I have been yachting is this - consider the fact that once you land (in the case of air travelers) or dock you will be watched....this is not meant to generate paranoia but instead to remind oneself of vigilance.....it is when we let our guard down that we get into trouble?

I think that it was better 40 years ago, but maybe it wasn't and the only thing that may have changed is the incredible quickness in reporting the trouble?

Canjet crew held hostage



Six crew members on board a Canadian airliner were being held hostage at gunpoint early today after a lone gunman with "mental issues" forced his way through security and stormed the jet as it was preparing to depart Jamaica for Halifax.

Crew was just released. The 174 passengers were released , unharmed hours ago!

yeah saw that flash across Breakfast Television this morning.. then they went to commercial and get this...

the first ad they showed was them advertising a chance a winning a trip to Mexico..

oh man was that unfortunately funny...

Why does anyone have to go somewhere warm? Whats wrong with our winter? If you need warm weather, wait, until July 17. It will be warm then.
