Very sad.

The news bites keep repeating that she wasn't wearing a helmet. Is a helmet standard gear for bunny-hill skiers these days?

When my kids were learning a few years ago, 1980's, there were no headgear when you rented. Is there today?

Wearing a helmet while skiing?

Not likely.

I've had my fair share of falls...and another thread on here I've described a few doozies my brother has had.

It seems like a very unfortunate incident...and perhaps a helmet COULD have helped...but, though tragic, unlikely.

I haven't had a chance to read all the details...but I do feel for her family and their loss.

Update to the story: Natasha Richardson passed away yesterday at hospital in New York. Autopsy is being conducted today.

I hate this, everytime something tragic happens somewhere we immediatley all start "freaking" out and wanting to implement new rules and such. How many people break a leg each year skiing? maybe we need to implement everyone everywhere wearing some sort of leg cast to prevent breaking.

Dean. Doesn't this clearly illustrate the reason for wearing a helmet?

Sometimes you have to pass laws for stupid people.

sometimes you just have to let stupid people die.

I hate that its a law that I MUST wear my seat belt. Why not just enforce that if you are not wearing a seat belt then you recieve no insurance or compensation for injuries and that even MB medical does not pay for your healthcare to recover from injuries?

Deank is in sh1te-disturber mode today...Very Happy

The seat belt law does two things: 1) it protects us from ourselves. and b) it protects all of us from the stupid that don't wear their seat belt and end up costing us ton's of thousands of dollars in hospital bills...

OK, from now on all drivers and passengers in automobiles must wear crash helmets and the HANS device. http://hansdevice.com/site/index.html

There is no question this will save lives, prevent serious injury and overall save money. ( a decent helmet and HANS will run about $2,500)

If it saves just one famous persons life it will be worth it.

Even the stupid in Canada get free medical coverage...no matter how they are injured I'm afraid....it's The Canadian Way.

" protects all of us from the stupid that don't wear their seat belt and end up costing us ton's of thousands of dollars in hospital bills..."
thats the problem... dont let them cost us... not wearing a seat belt? well ... thats gonna be a wee bit of an expensive hospital bill sonny.
put the onus on the person to make a proper decision on wearing a seatbelt... ie... frick me I better wear my seatbelt cause if I get in an accident I am fricked!... not frick me I better wear my seatbelt because I dont want to pay a fine..

What lunacy!! Thats just not the socialist way. There are those who have a higher station in life who decide what is good for us and what we should not do. Just imagine what would happen if we were given the freedom of choice. Heaven forbid!

It would be chaos !!

I don't think we'd have Olympians anymore would we?

Forgive me if I hadn't noticed...but I don't remember seeing helmets on the skiers during the last Winter Olympics.

Hey, snowboarding or any other sport without protection still puts you at risk of STD's and unwanted pregnancy.
