From the Sun

A man accused of beheading a fellow passenger on a Greyhound bus in southern Manitoba will stand trial for second-degree murder.

Bus beheading suspect will stand trial 450_cp_li_080805

Surprising no? Seems anyone that would do such a thing would be considered mentally incompetent. Good, go to jail, directly to jail...

I'd say, given that there is no way this man is innocent, nor could anyone ever prove that he did not commit this crime in front of a bus load of witnesses.

I say Fast Track him to the gallows. Seriously. why do we need to now pay to house this guy for 30 to 40 years? BS, lets practice being green here. Reduce recycle and reuse.

Reduce the burden on Canadian taxpayers, by putting him to death in a timely fashion.

Recycle the jail cell he would have occupied and house some other deserving scumbag.

Reuse all that we know to try and prevent this from occurring in the future. Also reuse what we have done here with some other people like C.O. and save some money there too.

This just in, NDP election platform changes;

1) Criminals no longer have to steal for a living, The government will pay them to not commit crimes. Will increase payroll tax to compensate.

2)Business owners now have to pay protection tax to the government to get them on a no-rob or a no-shoplift list.

Love the avatar, Rosen.

No, I said it twice but in a slightly different way as to fool the public into paying the tax twice.

That is what the NDP are all about. TAX and Spend

Meanwhile, back at the topic......

Even if Li stands trial, can he not be acquitted on the basis that his mental state at the time, he was insane?

So, if he's fit enough to stand trail, he's fit enough to hang!! Figureatively speaking, at least.

Guy even said he wanted to be killed at his first hearing.

So what's the hold-up? Let's get it over with.

Maybe he could take his own life. You can't be tried for suicide.

Dean. Isn't the question that is asked is whether he knew what he was doing was wrong at the time that he committed the offence?

If it is determined that he didn't, he is put into an institution until such time as he is able to, usually under medication.

I thought that when he is well again, he is released from the institution.

There can be during a trial the attempt by the defence to mount a not criminally responsible defence.
However, the fact that he is already fit to stand trail would weigh heavily against him. Its not impossible, but extremely highly improbable.
Canada does not have the easy out... at least not as easy as USA and other areas do.

He will stand trial the same as anyone else now till he probably starts rambling about the scheme of live when asked about his childhood . This will be determined to be per the abuse his Grandfather gave him when he was a baby watching fish be cleaned and the cutting the head off . Some how he has associated this cutting the head off with hello.
Course this is just my guess and what the hell I think I have heard about all the excuses to pass in a court over the years.

I for one and sick and tired of anyones childhood anything being a mitigating factor in sentanceing.

Hell if anything it should be the other way around.. whats that.. abused as a child? Then you know how bad it is first hand and you did it... double the punishment for you.
