( also time for CBC to get rid of jeopardy and wheel of fortune )
Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune used to be on another Canadian channel (CTV ?)before CBC snapped them up.
If the other channel could sell adverterising on the shows why can't CBC? All I ever see are announcements for upcoming CBC programs.

Seems like CBC got Janet Stewart, John Sauder, Jeopary, Wheel of Fortune, all in exchange for the hockey theme.

Yeah, enough of their crappy programming! I want more tractor pull and mixed martial arts fighting. Thems quality programs that entertain the average person well.

LOL...I prefer Discovery Civilization, Discovery Health and movie channels. National Geographic Channel is interesting. My fav network shows are 20/20, Dateline, House and The Doctors (just cause Travis is HOT).

If we're gonna bail out any cultural institution, let it be the rights museum, 'cause there's one in Montreal and we need one in the West, eh!

And if we really want to draw visitors, we need a tractor pull museum! Americans will visit in droves!

I've always understood that the CBC pays a hellava' lot more for equal work that the other networks...can anyone confirm this? If true, there's a place to start...reduce salaries...HA HA HA...like that's ever going to happen.

I was talking about that very thing with a colleague this morning. Many folks in the industry envy CBCers due to the high salaries and lighter workload.

If the CBC spends $1,000,000,000 on salaries, and they are short 170,000,000 that is 17%- All they have to do is agree to 75% of thier salary and everyone keeps thier job, and next year's budget they can re-work thier pay schedule.

CBC should be financed as the British do the BBC. That is totally with no advertising revenue, and thier mandate should be to spend money only on canadian stories and not buying any American junk, as they are in competition with CKND and CKY TV etc

Meh. I'd rather they brought back The Beachcombers. It'd also be cool to see them remake that show - although who'd take the place of Bruno Gerussi? Or Robert Clothier?

The Aspers and Ctv Have been fighting this over the last several years and they are still right , McLean's is mad cause it lost its case for help several years ago over Canadian Content in Newsweek and Time they were given the right to carry less and were dropped from the Govt duties and tariffs list. So there price came down to the same level as McLean's .

I think the government (read taxpayers) are currently funding CBC over a BILLION dollars per year. Which amounts to about 60 % of CBCs total annual revenue.
I would not call that leaving CBC to fend for itself.
That being said I do not think we taxpayers should be bailing out the private networks. If there aren't enough advertising dollars to go around, then there are too many channels!! How many channels do I need to watch CSI reruns ??? Crying or Very sad
