So every day on my way to work I pass the old A&B Sound building down town and can't help but wonder, who pays for that empty building and why is down town so horrible that a big building like that has sat vaccant for what... 3 or 4 years now. You think companies would jump all over that building. Whats up with that?

thats sad really... no wonder why there is so much urban sprall here. companies don't even really want to look at what would be prime property in other cities. Shame!

When they 'cleaned up' Main Street, everyone moved to Portage Avenue.

Am I the only one that noticed this?

besides low lighting in the building. it seemed sizable enough for some thing like yet another call center or other sort of office building. I imagine that the heating costs of that old brick building thought would be sky high.

sizeable enough for sure... but completely configured all batshit crazy and in need of extensive interior changes to make it usable.

They haven't cleaned up Portage Avenue to my knowledge, but, the people from Main moved to Portage Avenue and seemed to have stayed.

Perhaps we are being held prisoner to heritage issues? At some point maybe we say enough and let a developer nuke the building and put something up that is more marketable.

Once that building is down, it would remain a vacant lot for many decades to come...probably turn into another park/green space. imo

why is it when I have gone to Van. or Toronto, i have seen like 1 or 2 bums. I have made a point on a few of my trips to try and notice them too. but here in winnipeg there seems to be a dozen that are instantly noticable? Are other cities just better at hiding them then here? like I thought bigger cities would have tons of bums if Winnipeg has this many...

In this case, I agree with you. being in the heart of the city it is not desirable to see vacant buildings. To me that says "Winnipeg is not a place to open a business" Level it and put something useful there if nobody wants the place! Its sat there for 3 or 4 years. Its time to let it go...

Hey a green space would even look better then slowly crumbling building.

I don't believe that you can just tear a building down here. You must get a demo permit and in order to get one you have to submit a developement plan...and a vacant lot won't be allowed.

Seems we're stuck with a vacant building.

btw who owns it?

I donno. I noticed a company name on a Lease ad stuck to the side of the building. But do they own it or are they just a company leasing it on behalf of some one else?
