wicked weather coming in apparently.. Rain, freezing rain, snow.... all sorts of stuff. and lots of it.

The papers will more then likely report on Tuesday or Wednesday just how many accidents there were over Monday...

How many will it be if they do report it?

There won't be any accidents.

There will be quite a few car crashes, collisions and smash ups.

Hard to imagine a serious storm is on the way when the sky is so blue and the temperature is -3c. If it gets real cold (not currently in the forecast) then I'll be worried as ice will be a big factor. If there is lot's of snow then maybe it'll be a snow day.

Streets are not too bad, Walking is far more treacherous.

oh its horrible. traction control lights and ABS light on the whole time, which I had never seen come on in my car before! saw car take out traffic light post and another car smash into the back of a parked car. And that was all in 4 blocks!

I was happy to make it into work today without losing control of my car. When I drove out of my driveway, I did some brake checks to see just how slipperly it was. It was worse than I expected but not as bad as what they are saying on the radio. The most slipperly part of the drive was in the residential areas.
Drive to conditions...

I drove this morning. No accidents, a little slipping and sliding, but most folks seemed to have figured it out and slowed down and kept their distance..

Made it to work in one piece. Worst part was on the side streets and in the parking lot at the building. Actually got stuck in the parking spot at work. Drive safely and slow down when coming to big puddles!!!!!!!!!

The bus I was on this morning got caught on a patch of ice at a stop on Mandalay. The driver of the car behind us got sick of waiting, and decided to pull around the bus as fast as he could, blaring his horn and flipping the driver off as he passed.

Then he caught the same patch of ice we were on, did a 180° turn, and ended up facing the bus... nearly hitting a woman and her two small children who had just gotten off the bus.

I wanted to beat the living sh1t out of the guy..

The Trans Canada east of Winnipeg was the worst driving conditions I have ever experienced and I've been driving here for almost forty years.

I have an all wheel drive Audi with a set of new winter tires. Normally this car is unstoppable. At one point I was up to 40km / hr and it was taking all my skill and experience just to keep the car on the road. The slightest bump would upset the car and I really thought it was only a matter of time till I joined dozens of others in the ditch.

Made it in to town but it took and hour, normally that's a 30 min trip.

I think the problem is that they are all unstoppable right now

Not me, just wondering as # 1 son takes the 77 in the mornings to RRC. Mandalay is notorious for being slippery and theres too many stop signs, but you got to be calm on a morning like this.

heh went and took the hockey nets of the local rink this morning, they were already sunk in a coupleof inches... but man oh man will that ice be awesome if that huge amount of water sitting on them freezes without it snowing first!

I have done that trip in these conditions all the way from the ontario border. its was slow trip. I stopped every 20 minutes or so to help people in the ditch. I didn't mind though because it gave me a break from driving on basically glared ice.

I too had an uneventful trip into work. Drove to the conditions.

I was uber-impressed at Winnipeg peeps when I got to the Marion and Archibald intersection. Lights were blinking red in all four directions and everybody was courteous and patient. For that reason there was no gridlock at the intersection.

That said the police should be there directing traffic.

Well in a perfect world, every one should already know to treat that like four way stop sign and there for no police should be needed. good to hear that people seem to be treating it as a four way stop.

The sheer volume of traffic at that corner would indicate police presence.

Today wasn't too bad for me.
When I stepped out my back door and started sliding though, I knew to be cautious.

When I got to the end of my back lane (St. Matthews), there was a pickup truck stuck across the intersection of St. Matthews and Beverley. It didn't look like he hit anything...just had no traction to move.

Clear sailing down Portage, around to Provencher and onto Mission...but once I hit Mission, there were 4 vehicles buried in the ditches on either side. A COW Truck (City of Winnipeg), Thor Plumbing & Heating, and a couple of personal vehicles.

It seemed there were no injuries...but there were still idiots flying down Mission and weaving around those in the ditch...hopefully it warms enough to melt the ice before someone actually does get hurt.

Just on my break at work with a co-worker and watched another vehicle come flying into the parking lot and slide right into the back end of another one of our co-worker's car. He went down to get the info, etc and the guy who hit him said "I didn't realize it was that slippery out".

what? holy crap how dumb is that guy? How could anyone not realize how slippery it is out there?

We just got back from taking the kidlets to the doctor and driving was okay...side streets are icy as hell though. Just need to be careful and drive a bit slower.
