Yes so could anyone but you hopefully don't leave a 1 yr old to grow up alone or not nowing his her mother, call me old fashioned but it is wrong even though we can do it .

heh.. and I know a couple that had a child when she was 52 and he 55.. they had it the norm uhl way.

I bugged them the about it quite a bit and they even knew it was "wrong" even though they were very religous they still loved the child very much and did not provide anything less for the kid then their younger kids when they were younger... that was 18 years ago. They are still great parents. ( probably helps alot that their oldest daughter had a kid less then 3 weeks before they did )

The only thing that might be questionable is that both are pretty old.
60 years old is way over the hill. Just ask the oldest person on this forum JTF, or even GOM, when you add his grumpiness to his age, you get 87 years old!

I don't know if I agree or disagree with the health care payment issue. I think a 60-year-old woman having kids is ridiculous...unless her husband is only 30 years old...so he can raise them when she's gone.

On the healthcare issue though, here's a few thoughts:
1) what about immigrants? (I'm an immigrant). So I come to this country at (whatever age), and have not been "paying in" to the healthcare system all my life. I just move here, get a job, and am entitled to all the healthcare anyone else is. At least this woman has been contributing all her life, and when the system told her they wouldn't cover something, she paid for the means to get it done...and now the healthcare is paying for something they would pay for anyone else who was pregnant.

2) what about travellers? Say you go off to Amsterdam, and partake of one of the "red-light specials". so you come back with an STD, or worse. Should the Canadian taxpayer now have to pay for your healthcare because YOU couldn't keep it in your pants?

I heard a woman on the radio yesterday though, she called in to a talk show and quoted Jurassic Park. The talk show was talking about this woman and the octuplet family.
