Good point.

What is the correct history? Facts may not be disputed, but the interpretation of the facts can be widely disputed I believe.

Everyone will have their own opinion as to the influence of any event in history. That being said, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, but I don't want to hear about yours.

Yes but we should have a basic understanding of the known facts to the event that has happened . The interpretation of those is for you to make , and so called experts to dispute.

ahh.. but its the known facts about an event that are often not recorded properly.

15 minutes after Bush declared War on IRAQ we all KNEW there was Weapons of Mass Destruction.

what do we know now?

information changes as time goes on

And Neville Chamberlain had a non-aggression pact signed by Adolf Hitler which was touted to guarantee "Peace in our time." Its all a part of history.

I notice that here in canada, that they seem to leave out things. Like the fact that Canada and America turned away the jewish people before WW2 and the hitler tried to send them here and other countries, but we turned them away. But I guess we don't want our kids to know that we might as well be as bad as hitler. I know I will live more comfortably knowing me kids won't know that! Shocked

sh1t we turned them away DURING WWII... which seems to me that might be a little bit worse then turning them away before the war.

How about the internment of Austro-Hungarians (now known as Ukranians) during WW I? We can't change what happened, but should at least understand why it happened and the impact of what did happen.

going to throw this question out here in response to "we should understand why it happened and the impact of it"

When has knowing about historic injustices and atrocities and crimes ever stopped the same thing from happening in the present?

There has been history for thousands of years, and humans as a race have been making the same mistakes, committing the same crimes and injustices that they always have.

The big thing on remembrance day has always been "Lest we forget" right? well we havnt forgotten the horrors of the world wars, many people are still alive from those times, and yet how many wars have happened or are happening right now regardless?

just a thought.
I enjoy learning about history now, but i still maintain that the majority of kids dont care and cant be made to care, kids are still too self absorbed at that age to care about world issues.

Bingo.
Imo, history will never prevent evil people from doing evil things.

Let us not pretend that a bloody museum will prevent anything, because that's nonsense. Just look at history, as you say.

This is a great discussion, but is far too philosophical and can only occur in earnest while consuming beverages. But at least we see the kind of great discussion that comes from studying history.

JTF's right.

That being said, quit hijacking every thread by injecting the Human Rights Museum. Do it again, and I'm coming over to drink all your booze and teach your children all the bad words I know.

You're in the wrong thread. I was responding to the comment in the OPEC controlling the weather and the reference to the Masons funding the CHRM. Don't give JTF the smallest opportunity to start on the CHRM.

If you're going to make fun of people from Quebec, you have to go to the thread on hate crimes.
