No...they are NOT Mormon.

Mormons do NOT sanction polygamy. Anyone who is found to be adulterers or polygamists are immediately excommunicated from the church.

The "sects" who claim to be Mormons and practice polygamy, are in fact clandestine cults...and are not part of the organize Mormon church.

Just to set the record straight about polygamy in the Mormon church. Yes...they did sanction it at one time...but not for the reasons of having multiple wives. They did it because many of the men were sent to war (Mexican/American), and women were not allowed (by law) to own property. So the men in the Mormon church were granted the right to take more than one wife, primarily for women who had lost their husbands, so they would not lose their property. When the US Government outlawed polygamy, so did the Mormon church (officially), allowing those already married to continue till they died off. This was in the 1800s...and since they are all long dead, there are no sanctioned polygamists left in the Mormon church.

All that said...it's just to get that STUPID assumption out of the way about polygamy being a "Mormon" thing in today's society. Even if the idiots claim to be Mormon...unless they are recognized on the baptismal registry in Salt Lake City...they are NOT Mormon. It's one of my pet peeves with that stupid show Big Love. They couldn't just do a show about some polygamists...they had to make the characters "Mormon"...even though they are not.

Well, yes, the Blackmore's I'm referring to are indeed Mormon, and have a history of practicing polygamy. This is direct from my friends mouth who is a Mormon and has an uncle out in BC who is Mormon and practices polygamy. He has no reason to lie. He himself wants no part of it.

I bet you that if the men do have more than 1 wife, that there is a good chance that they are living common law, so as not to get in trouble with the authorities!
Most of the males who have more than "one woman" have been found to be mentally deficient, because I personally think that having even one wife, is one too many! lol

ummm.. not quite...

"There he combined restorationist biblical polygamy with the idea that one gained a higher status in the next life based on the quantity of wives and offspring in this life. This gave the religious rationale for large plural families in later Mormonism. Thus, polygamy—called “celestial” (meaning heavenly) or “patriarchal” marriage after the polygamous patriarchs of the Old Testament such as Abraham and Jacob—was accepted as necessary for “exaltation,” the highest salvation in the Mormon heaven. Present-day Mormons generally accept that eternal monogamous marriage is sufficient for exaltation but also still anticipate that there will be polygamy in heaven. Joseph Smith experimented with polyandry, as well, by marrying eleven women who were already civilly married to other men.

here is a good website with some details on it

The proper name for what church? The one these guys belong to in BC?

Because the one that is actually "Mormon" out of Salt Lake City is NOT called the "Fundamentalist" church.

This is the link to the actual Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (The MORMONS)...and a complete description and history of polygamy within the church is listed on the site.

Other "sects" have claimed to be Mormon, but as stated before, unless the member is listed on the baptism registry in Utah...they are, in fact, NOT MORMON.

I just watched CNN on location where the "authorities" removed 463 children from their parents 6 months ago!
The kids were laughing, smiling, and working on their farmland.
These kids were snatched from their parents, by authorities who falsely claimed that they were at risk!
The authorities had been reading their own biased reports!
I guess when you force kids to contribute on the farm, it is a form of abuse, when you compare the kids upbringing to what is "normal" in most other situations!
These kids have no TV, no drug infected environment, no stealing cars, no crime stats to compare to, no guns.
No wonder the Texans think they are abused!
They have always shunned reporters, but now they think that may have caused some negative reporting.
"The truth shall set you free!"
Beautiful children, very poor haircuts, too long dresses!

The one thing to understand about Mormon philosophy...and MOST of the sects as well...is that they are all based on communist society.

Not in the political sense...but in the communal support.

Salt Lake City, Utah, was originally a giant commune. Outsiders were unwelcome, and everyone had a task assigned to the them. Children worked when they were old enough (usually around age Cool. This was actually no different than most of the country at that time, just that they had a common religious sense, and ignored government.

The US quickly recognized that large communes posed a threat, the same as Indian Nations...and sent delegates out to warn the communes. Since the members of the church were technically US Citizens...they decided compliance was better than battle.

Canada's political view is not much different. While most of us seeing an 8-year-old swinging farm scythes and working on equipment picture hands being chopped off, and slaves working in a field...it's actually not uncommon in farming and communal societies.

I don't believe in allowing abuse or torture to these kids, and a system should be in place to allow certain freedoms for these kids when they reach a specific age to have an option to leave...but if you ever meet these families...they are typically very polite, courteous and more than willing to help someone in need, whether part of the "community" or not.

"Government" sees communes as a threat. If a commune were to keep growing, and ESPECIALLY if more people decide they want to join THAT community...the "control" the government has over them is reduced, and that's not acceptable to the bureaucrats and politicians.
