Yesterday on the way to work going down route 90 heading North towards the St James bridge, I was in the left hand lane, when a vehicle passed me on the right, and then moved into my left lane. I slowed down to leave extra room between our cars, and then moved into the right hand lane. This vehicle is leaving 1/2 car length between the car ahead. No big deal, but unsafe . On the St. James bridge he pulls into the right hand lane, because there was room to move forward, and then as soon as he was able to move to the far right lane he does, only spinning out of control and smashing his front end into the concrete . I barely missed hiting him, and was lucky there was no car to my immediate left. I wanted to stop and tell him that he should drive more cautiously, but I was laughing too much. His front end had an incredible amount of damage.

Big fancy vehicle, diving too fast and too close.

What entertainment!

could be because of the 4 wheel drive/ SUVness for sure. You see those types of vehicles not driving to conditions all the time.

Or it could be someone who just dont know how to drive.

Maybe the vehicle was stolen.

Had a similar experience yesterday on McGregor. Road was slippery, so I slowed down, allowed more distance, avoided unecessary distractions such as conversation (I was driving with my wife), but a woman (just mentioning it, nothing intended) in a Murano was darting in and out of lanes. When we got to the Slaw Rebchuk bridge, she was right beside me, so no prize for winning the race.

I used to own a Jeep Cherokee, but it was an 1980 model, and thats when they were big. The size gave me a little more comfort in the sense that I had a better chance in a collision with most vehicles on the road, which were smaller, but thats where it ended. I could skid and spin just as well as anyone. I never engaged the front axle unless I really had too, it was too hard on gas, and provided no benefit on plowed city streets.

Most of the newer SUV's really aren't that big, so its probably a case of drivers (idiots) having a false sense of security with all wheel or 4 wheel drive. Doesn't matter what you're driving, if you collide with a concrete wall, the wall wins.

I've noticed an attitude of perceived invincibility in friends who drive 4x4s, SUVs, or pickup trucks. Won't help if you don't know how to drive!

That is the point...if you know how to drive.

Some people don't know how, or are just new drivers, and drive, what others would say, is too slow.

To slow drivers, anyone doing the speed limit is driving too fast.

Whatta ya gonna do? Smile
