Wow, that's very tragic. Sadly this is what happens with increased globalization. If there's a profit to be made from moving a heavily regulated industry (in this case battery recycling) to a place with more lenient restrictions (usually poor 3rd world nations) you can be sure someone is doing it.

What I find really sad is near the end of the article where the one resident says that they will not move because the government only wants to come in and clean up so that they can have the money from the lead all to themselves.

No regulations regarding hazardous materials! I guess the government there cannot read, and the government's in developped countries cannot be bothered to restrict dangerous materials from being shipped elsewhere! Something like Canada exporting zonolite or that fly poison without proper warnings?

This has been going on for years and will contiune as long as we allow it to, take a look at China's pollution record .
