How will you remember Steve Jobs?

He was born in California and adopted. His biological father is a Syrian Moslem who became a Political Science professor. Jobs was a Buddhist.

I remember him as the cofounder of an innovative and influential company that came up with some really cool toys that broke easily. They cornered the markets of media distribution and planned obsolescence.

Having said that, some Powerbook designs were rock solid and hackable... still use my 1999 vintage Lombard (and 4th Gen iPod) to this day.

I have a Mac G3 that's been running since 1998.

Got my first PC in 2003, and have gone through FOUR OF THEM in the last 8 years.

I am still bitter that they no longer support the G4/G5 platform leaving my G5 iMac and G4 Powerbook as a glorified doorstops that can no longer run any new software (since everything now requires an x86 processor).

I doubt that I will ever buy an Apple product again.

Wow Sput get with the now. the G4 was decent, the G5 was akin to having a small box heater under your desk. The move to intel x64 processors was inevitable, and in the long run a smart business move. It allowed the Mac to become more than just a niche market.

I go through Computers about once every five years. I upgrade some components, and format and re-install annually. Though my media center has been running Win7 Ultimate for almost 2 years now. And my desktop is almost a year old now as well, and no issues there.

The people that tend to have short lifespan on their computers tend to buy the cheap stuff and hope it lasts. Stick with the mid to high end components and you have a solid computer that will last.

Both my 6100/66AV and 7200 (w/7500 logic board) are still going, too... of course, both have been upgraded significantly (via Sonnet G3 and G4 accelerators)!

The 6100 was used to produce a couple of production videos a few years ago, while the 7200 cum 7500/G4 was used to produce a few issues of a magazine that went nowhere.

I'll continue using the Apple stuff I have until it finally dies like my Amiga stuff did recently. But I doubt I'll ever buy another Apple product again. My Linux machines have pretty much taken over.

I have had a Dell computer at home that is used day in and day out since Christmas 2004. no problems, only upgrade by adding another hard drive ( and mice and keyboards and monitors as they wore out)

It was $700 including delivery its still is good enough(ish)
