Yeah aint that nice.. except peanut butter, and many fruits are banned from school.

I can seriously see this study being fodder for schools banning ALL outside lunches and insisting that either taxes are raised to pay for a food program or that parents have to provide money for the school mandated lunch.

Good lord, what have parents been doing since we started sending kids to school with their lunches? Enough with the coddling. We are turning into an over-protective society that will be unable to move without big brother's involvement..

If the food you are sending cant take 5 hours of being at room temperature. You should not be eating that food to begin with. Hell we packed HOT thermoses of soup or hot chocolate with our lunches growing up and surely that would have made it even worse, and there was NEVER and ice pack or fridge anywhere nearby. Studies like this one seem designed to find a problem that does not exist.

I like how the study didn't actually find anything out.

That it "The vast majority of lunches were clearly out of a safe range, but
it's hard to know what the true biological impact of that is. We don't
truly know how often this results in a foodborne illness,"

Which basically says...yeah...it's recommended to keep the temps lower...but there's no proof that it would make a difference anyway.

It's a "study" to promote another "study". I believe that this is done all the time to raise "research" money.Rolling Eyes

The article that FARK is using for this even includes facts like 99% of VEGETABLES are stored at improper temp.

Well la de fucken da. How many veggies are stored on ice at Sobey's?

We always sent an ice pack with food that needed to be kept cold and a thermos to keep things hot.

What is the big deal? Simple common sense!

I wonder if it will ever come to the point that kids taking their lunches to school will be replaced by "free lunches" for all kids attending the school.
Since there is no "free lunch", the bill would be paid by the tax payers. Crying or Very sad

Great, those are all anti-oxidant foods, which are supposed to keep disease away from us like Cancer, Diabetes, etc...

Great governments we have nowadays. He suggested that parents could pack food for their children like fruit or peanut butter 970993

That's okay, most days my kids don't even eat the lunch we pack for them!
As a parent, I wouldn't mind paying for a lunch program at school/daycare. It's got to be more efficient than the status quo...

As long as it is not paid for by general tax revenues.
Why should Grandma and Grandpa who have not had any kids in school for 40 years be paying for kids lunches?

What a bullshit study/article. I agree w/ Dean - this sounds like kindling to light fires to enable schools to ban lunches entirely. That said, I can't imagine what they would possibly feed kids onsite, what with the ban of nearly everything edible. This year, my child was in a class that had all dairy, all nuts and all wheat banned. They were also prohibited from packing drinks from the outside world - had to drink water from the school via their own plastic cup and/or school lunch program administered milk/juice. THERE WAS ONE KID IN THE CLASS THAT HAD THESE ALLERGIES. ONE. ONLY ONE.

Back in the 80's, people packed thermoses with...milk. Peanut butter sandwiches. Mayo riddled tuna. In all the years I was subject to being a prisoner in a classroom, nobody died or had to be epi-penned because they were exceptional. This generation is coddled, and schools/lawmakers are over-the-top with their a$$-covering tactics.

Cause someone who didnt have kids in school for 40 years paid for Grandma and Grandpa, and their kids, and their kids to go to school. I'm sure they didn't have computers when they went, why should they pay for those either? Why don't we just stop public funding of schools all together with that train of thought? Can't afford to put your kids in private school, then too bad. It would really improve society as a whole if only the rich could afford to educate their children and every one else could just be happy with whatever menial jobs they could get without any education. It'd be swell, like something straight out of Dickens.

We could all save so much money and live like kings if we all didn't have to pay into things we don't use. Don't own a car why should you pay for roads? We don't need to truck your food in do we? You never fly, why pay for NavCanada let the airplanes find their own way? We'll just hope they don't bump into each other. Haven't been to the doctor in years, why should my tax dollars go to cancer patients or your heart by-pass? I've never been arrested or had my house catch fire, why should I pay into that? Let's just make those user pay while we're at it too.

If we try really hard we could be just like Somalia and get rid of government completely. Sweet.
