God willing, the Harper gov't will sell off the CBC.

Should David Asper buy it? This would be an instant way to get back into national broadcasting.

Of course, he would have to get some other investors to share the cost.

Well, first he should go and purchase the CBC, and then while in the process, admit he doesn't have enough money, and knock on Sellinger's door asking for money. It's worked before...

We need the Harper government to fund an extra $1,000,000,000 (billion), so the CBC can stop selling advertising, and set the CBC up to operate like the BBC.
No advertising and a mandate to promote all Canadian talent.
There are so many great programs that have been produced in Canada and so much talent available.

The bloat at CBC is atrocious and borders on insanity. The amount of money they pour though is astounding. Money which could be going to promote and encourage innovative and interesting Canadian television, radio and other artistic endeavours.

Think of some of the successful Canadian shows in the last few years. How many were developed, created or supported by CBC as compared to the number done by the Global/Shaw group of companies and the CTV group of companies.

Why do we need the CBC to promote Canadian talent when the Americans have been so good at it for such a long time?

This nonsense about the CBC's value in establishing our own cultural identity should be stopped immediately. It's bullshit!.

I sure don't need those guys telling me what I am.

There is no reson on earth that the CBC should continue to be publically funded. imo.
