On hot103 this morning.

Sam indicated that from what he can tell most people dont care about the increased parking cost because he has hardly received any emails at all about it.

Whats your opinion?

Total public apathy. On seemingly everything. Politicians count on it.

Gets to the point tho that no one cares to send anything to Sam because he has not once acknowledged a public outcry and changed his tune?

I sent sammy a note about amber lights. And to a few others. They did not write back. Not even a postcard.

But, I'm not totally against parking fee increases. I do not like expanding the hours. The city needs to encourage people to come down town on the weekends and in the evenings. Don't see how this will help.

Short-sighted fools hard at work eh?

I think it may very well be that nobody gives a damn about the downtown parking fiasco except a few downtown businesses because nobody goes downtown anymore anyway.

exactly. we do need an increase to encourage more green usage. BUT NOT evenings and weekends when the place is already deserted.

What's "green usage" got to do with this raise issue?

I don't have a problem with raising the parking rates by a buck, that's fine (ok, I do have a problem with it, but I also understand the price of things is always going to go up...so get used to it). However changing the parking times is short-sighted and will do more harm than benefit.

If the city wanted to make more revenue, they should reduce and/or remove 50%-80% of the loading zones that currently exist and replace them with parking meters. Especially in the exchange.

Bite your tongue. I use those loading zones. Daily. You want me to actually PAY for parking? Smile

Shhhh! Don't tell anyone that there are few restrictions on "loading" and people can actually park for a bit for free in these zones. I do it all the time and have been for years....ever since I challenged a ticket in court and won.

We can not assume tha emails to the mayor would be any different than reader comments on the WFP site. And many of these comments were in favour of parking rate increases, and opposed to amber changes. Neither emails or comments could be viewed as representative of public opinion anyway, so why should they care.

There is no time limit. That's the point I won on.

Letters. Lot's of letters. Will reflect the mood of the citizens. If the response is lukewarm or 50/50 than maybe the public response should be ignored.

I noticed that when the truth of the amber light issue finally sunk in many people changed their position. The last few features resulted in more favourable amber light response.

Or it could be people grew weary of the topic.

to encourage less use of personal vehicles you increase parking fees.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one...I know I fall into this camp more often than not nowadays.

I can b1tch as well as anyone else can, the fact that I always seem to be on the loosing side, tends to wear a person down after time.

I think the apathy stems from the fact it does not appear the elected listen to the electorate.

Looks like you can only comment there if you "like" the page.

In my mind (such as it is) we have to increase income somewhere/how. The infrastructure deficit was not sammy's doing yet many of the bozo's on that page lay it at his feet. Including the twin schmucks orlikow and smith.

sammy is also a schmuck for stubbornly refusing a "tax increase". But I'd sooner have a levy as it should go away once the reason for the levy goes away.

I think there is record of significantly increased infrastructure spending on his watch than his predecessors, yet everything is sammy's fault?
