In today's digital communication age.. should MPs still be required to "sit" in parliment?

With advances in communication come the ability to set up virtual offices..and it would be far cheaper to do so then to pay for travel and accommodation for all of Canada's MPs.

Is there any good reason to they still need to be there in person?

If they weren't there in person, they would miss out on being feted by lobbyists and would suffer from lower campaign contributions from said lobbyists, no?

I used to work in a global company where we had regular "meetings" weekly with people the world over. We used teleconferencing with online white-boarding and PowerPoint presentations.

Very effective in most cases. BUT, in business much "work" is accomplished after-hours during the socializing events. Maybe not an apples to apples comparison.

Let's just say much of the business conducted during meetings can be done through technology. Some cannot.

I'd say much of the "work" that get's accomplished at socializing events can just as easily be done in the office but then the white collar workers wouldn't have any excuse for their employers to pay for these social events. Let's face it, everyone loves to have their entertainment payed for by someone else.

Sure. Whatever you say. Spoken like a true union die-hard.

And it is paid not payed.

Spoken like someone who's been on both sides of the fence. The whole work getting done on the golf course is a pile of crap. It's just a convienient excuse for spending less time in the office. I didn't claim to be for or against it, just calling a spade a spade. Btw, thanks for the spellin correction. I don't bother proof reading posts from my phone.

Gee, aren't most "white collar workers" within government unionized?
